Hi all. the Kripple Kart's make over is proceeding. Here's the deal; I like the chrome '56 grill so I'm gonna keep it,but I'm gonna lose the rectangular side/turn assembly and put them in the headlights.I hate the way the rad and stuff is visible behind the grille; So I scored some gold mesh that I intend to put behind it; so,given that a new flame job, candy red over silver flake over black(no debate please)is imminent do I ; a;flake the mesh to match the flames so the front is all one color behind the chrome grill ? b;leave the mesh gold behind the chrome so it's obvious ? c;paint the mesh black to make it less noticable ? Thanks in advance Paul
Cut it to size and do a mockup to see what YOU think of it gold....but for me I am thinking black it out.
I would be tempted to paint it satin black, not to matt though. The gold might look a little out of place behind the chrome of the light bar. Would this be the only gold bit on the truck? IMO gold and chrome look alright, but in 57 Belair proportions. The gold mesh may overshadow the chrome. I think I would put the satin black mesh quite far back behind the light bar. I will do some experimenting on Micky Cadman's truck tomorrow night as I share a unit with him and his two 56 F100 trucks.
Hey,how the hell is Mickey's panel comin' along?Don't suppose she's ready for those bumpers I sold him yet?Have we met?Questions,questions..... Paul
Ok guys, how about; d) the black body of the truck is to get a very light dusting of silver flake which is then gonna get very, very, very many coats of candy red so that there's a very subtle flake effect but only in certain lights. Mostly, it will appear black with a deep red tint. How about doing the mesh like this, to match the body?
The chassis for the panel is coming on pretty well, he is currently making a new fuel tank for it and then he should be dropping the body back down on it again to start all the bodywork. A little way off using your bumpers yet, but progressing well. It has been delayed slightly because he decided to put a new front coilover set up on the pick up. As well as getting getting his wife pregnant, which may slow things down as well in the future. I see a Tot Rod coming on. I can't remember if we have actually met, though if your going to be at Wheels Day I shall see you there, I will be going with Micky so if you find him you will probably find me or vice versa. The new paint job sounds gorgeous, is the plan to have it out for Wheels Day?
Having read this I would go with this option over my last suggestion. I was not sure how much flake you would be putting in, to heavy might not have worked. But by using the candy red you are going to get a nice uniform colour in the front end.
Wheels day is the plan, hope to see ya there.I'll be the fat rocker in the wheelchair.Give Mick my Congrats. Paul
Or maybe, Send a small piece of that mesh over to your painter and see what he can do with it... Sounds like you have the truck color picked out, candy over a silver is a traditional method...as is candy over gold, sometimes candy over blue... May want to make a test panel of the candy over silver, then the candy over your mesh panel and take them out in the sunlite ..see how you like it then, , kinda looks like the mesh may be anodized...this may have an additional effect.
Probably paint the mesh matte black so it disappears. Maybe paint the bottom tank of the radiator matte black too so it doesn't shine through the mesh.
