  1. A friend has this grille. We are trying to identify it. Amy thoughts?

My Amy thought is, it's a shortened 54 Chevy center piece with a couple of additional holes.
    Let's see the back side.

1955 DeSoto without the teeth? Possibly cut down?

The 55 Desoto park lights are not the same shape...close, but no cigar.

Yup, modified shortened 54 Chevy . See the rivet? IMG_4351.jpeg

  7. Thanks guys, I think you are right on ‘54 Chevy, but I believe the end of the light portion may be cut off. I do not have it in my hands. I will have to ask the owner’s widow in Kansas for a side picture. That would be the real identifier…and maybe the width.

yup, the ends where it used to wrap around the fender on a 54 chev look like they have been trimmed off. Hard to say what kind of car they had that in. surely will not fit a 54 chev anymore

  9. Thanks guys, yes it is a ‘54 Chevy with the end sides cut off..

  10. Many '54 Chevy grilles were adapted to use in '55 Fords.

    Maybe a 49-50 Merc opening????

I cut up one from a ‘55 Oldsmobile and made a floating grille out of it

Can you let us know how you did that? (Floating), I’d like to remove the “teeth” on my ‘57 Chevy PU, then float the center.
Hopefully can be done without welding, as the grill has good chrome.

I lol have to see if I can find the pictures of it close up but I cut 4” out of the back of the grill and 6” there abouts out of the length (side to side) and added parking lights to the ends. I made the brackets out of stainless flat bar and welded them up afterwards and had it chromed. Word to the wise do not use stainless steel wire to rig weld the grill up or you will pay a lot more for the chrome because the process is more intense. I bolted it to the studs I welded to the radiator brackets ( I installed a cross flow radiator so the supports were wider than stock) and bolted it in. 000_0241.jpeg
