"Grindhouse": Tarantino does "Vanishing Point..." Damn fine car chase!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fur biscuit, Apr 7, 2007.

  1. So, went and saw "Grindhouse" last night. Tarantino pays some serious homage to Vanishing Point, or maybe car chases, or girl power or what ever. Robert Rodriguez gives the zombie/ cannibal genere a real kick in the pants. Lots of great A-list "B" movie stars. Go and see it!!!

I still need to see it, I did hear that there was no CGI used ,just old fashioned live action car chases and stunts. They wrecked about 6 or 7 70 challengers and 69 chargers

rodriguez does cgi on all of his major action scenes but tarantino prefers doing live action...just a tid bit of info, and the movie looks cool

  9. That movie kicked ass like some kind of ass kicking machine. I have not had that much fun at the movies in a long time.

  10. Whats left of one of the stunt/jump cars is on ebay now!!!! to much $$$ for to little!!!

  11. the theater I went to was only showing Grindhouse (old fashion single screen), everyone was cheering, clapping, laughing and grossing out at all the great stuff in the film. Definately a classic!

Just got home from seeing it. What a film! Can't say that I've ever seen anything quite like it.

Went to see it tonight. The whole thing had an "old school" gritty drive-in feel to it. There were a couple funny surprises mixed in as well.

I preferred the second half of the "double feature" myself...I thought it was well done. I also enjoyed the "previews" before and during that were intermixed with the two movies. It's clear they played around quite a bit with the editing, trying to give the impression of an old movie. It was fun. Look out for Tarantino's signature cues, including the cigarettes...

I'd heard that all the car stunts were real, no CGI stuff in the last half. It was impressive to see, the ending is a future classic. Too bad they had to destroy some vintage tin in the process, but I think the overall effect is worth it. They were just rust-bucket stunt cars anyway, right? Right?

    TIP:

Change positions in your seat often. I couldn't feel my ass after sitting there for almost 4 hours (including the initial previews)!

  15. Definitely had just about everything I look for in a movie. Only thing I could see that was missing was midgets, and maybe a couple topless nuns with whips and patent leather fuck-me boots.

Just because you're posting on the HAMB doesn't mean that there is any thing wrong with muscle cars. Give me a break.

Saw the movie today. An awesome homage to Dirty Mary/Crazy Larry, Bullitt, and Vanishing Point. It also probably wasn't accidental that the Charger had Vector wheels ala the Dukes of Hazzard either. I'll enjoy picking apart every ten seconds to assign each moment a movie reference when it comes out on dvd.

First thing I thought when I saw the "new" death car was..."man, those wheels are hard to find now a days because of the Dukes of Hazzard"

    LOL....!

Thought maybe they black-primered one of the "extras" leftover from the "Dukes" movie that came out last year. I'll have to see it again and look for hints of orange in the damage shots.

Are there now any '69 Chargers left out there to jump and crush????? They seem to be overwhelmingly rebuildable for these movies. Oh, and they always land right, and keep on going!

It was still a good 3.5 hour long movie worth seeing. If nothing else, you can say it made your ass numb.

They are actually making "new" Vectors now. I don't think they are exact repops but rather a modern interpretation though. I'd love to have a 69 Charger again to park next to my 57. Sadly they are much more expensive now than thy used to be.

Excellent movie....saw it last night with my girlfriend...

  24. It burns my ass they keep destroyin' them Chargers. They will be 100 grand at this rate. Had a 70 back in the day, 440 4-speed and it was a neat ride. I'm about priced out of ever gettin another. How bout some movies about smashin' Camaros. Sure seems to be enough of them around.

  25. Grindhouse was also the subject of the most awesome movie review ever, from Neil Cumpston. Excerpts:

    Here's the entire review ...
