Grundy P's me off!

1. OK, I decide to insure my '34 Ford custom with Grundy. Their online estimate was 1/3 of what Hagerty wanted. So, I fill out more forms, and send them along with the check and pictures of the car.

NOW, they email me and say they need pictures of the car... WTF? I call and tell them that I already sent them pictures, lots.

Well, this takes the cake. They tell me "you sent the wrong photos". I say "No, they're the right ones, the red roadster". But...they don't believe me that it's a 1934 Ford! They want INDEPENDANT DOCUMENTATION that it's what I say. If I don't send it, they won't cover even the cost of a basket case '34 roadster.

I can't believe a big time 'old car' insurance company would be so shallow. They are too used to insuring plastic Cobras and resto Camaros.

How would they handle a lakes modified 'T', or a chopped '49 Merc with a Buick grill... demand proof of identity?

I told them to send back my check. I'll go with my State Farm agent for the time being.

I was expecting a typical 34 ford. I can kinda see their point.

I wouldn't have believed that was a '34 Ford either, I would assume a mistake was made. I would guess if you would explain to them what was going on they would be fine with it. You don't think you overreacted a bit?

I wouldn't get too upset about it. Take it as a compliment. It's so modified, that they can't distinguish it. Almost anyone looking at that car would be surprised to find out it's a '34 roadster. I'd go ahead and get them the documentation they need, and tell them you understand why they might question the year. Then you and them can have a big laugh about it.

why so grumpy? i get what they're sayin. you don't?

15. I agree with the others that its a cool car and all, but if you tell them its a 34 Ford, its not in their eyes, or mine.

Its a custom, and you will need to provide documentation to base a replacement cost on.

They are just covering their butts..Wouldn't you in the same situation?

Give them a break and work with them. You have a unique and most likely irreplaceable car there..

Really, what did you expect?

I think you made a mistake. You posted a photo of the wrong car. I have over fifty years in this insane hobby and I know a 34 Ford when I see one. And that, my friend, is NOT a 34 Ford. Please, post the photo of the correct car.

Okay, change of tact.....
Gather photos of what it started as...34 Ford. Then a series photos as the work, modifications, alterations progresses until you get to the final photo.
Otherwise, you are WAY off.

17. I sympathize with your gripe but it looks very little like a ford of any year.
Looks to me like a Singer built in the 50's.
Just my cheap opinion.

1) Go to Grundy, fill out the application, click on "Custom/Modified" you'll probably have better luck.

22. If I insure a plastic body on a tube frame with Pinto suspension and a Impala engine (nothing made before 1970) for say $40k, they would not question if it looks more like a '34 Ford or a Nash Metro. The premium should reflect the coverage!

This is kind of stupid don't you think?
Everyone already said it. Doesn't look like a 34 ford, not even close. The bottom of the door does though !

This is a ridiculous complaint... Grundy is a great company.

You have a cool car, but a unique circumstance. Expect to be treated just as your car is, uniquely.

And quit your public bitching about it. Geez.

27. From my online application "Does body, drivetrain or engine differ from original car maker? - YES". They knew up front it was not stock.

They insure customs? right? That looks custom. Then they should insure it. I use Haggerty. They're pretty good.

yeah..I tried to insure a spaceship last week with them and they told me it looked nothing like the 55 Chevy I told them it was. Gee wiz
;)

Seriously though...they are a fantastic company. You have to admit that it's a radical custom and looks far from what it started like. I can understand your frustration..but you have to understand where they are coming from too
