I'm restoring a 65 GTO at work. While this is a year OT, I thought I'd ask here looking for some detail about the face of the speedometer. This thing has a very nice checkered flag right above the center of the needle. I've never seen that before and a google and ebag search revealed nothing. The flag is very similar to some of the emblems that were used over the years, looks quite nice, definately original, but I wonder what the significance is. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
what, they don't have google on your computer? or it's broken? took me seconds to find this http://ultimategto.com/cgi-bin/showcar.cgi?type=show&pic=/1965/65_00088_4
HEY HEY HEY...Let's not get all shitty over a G.T.O....they were and still are cool cars. Y'all are gonna get my hackles up... Yep. The checkerboard doohickeys were g.t.o. only. I only know this because I have cloned so many of the bastards. in the event you decide to send it off for refurbishment, be sure to mention you know what you have, and anything less than that in unacceptable. supposedly they were "calibrated" like a cop car or pace car.
Yeah squirrel I have google...very funny. Maybe I missed the link. Give an old fucker a break for crissakes! Jeez!. Thanks for the replies and info. The tach is green all the way too. I thought that was wierd. Nice to know. Traditional GTO? Tri-power motor, Torq Thrust Ds, and a bit of an ass-high stance. Does that qualify?
The checkered flag came on the Ralley Gauges. Standard speedo didn't have the flag. As for the green on the tach, that was used '64-very early '65. After that they were green & red as shown in the link.
I cheated, I went to google images, then searched for 1965 gto tachometer and the checkered flag pic was the first thing that appeared
My '65 doesn't have the flag on the speedo, I believe because it doesn't have the rally gauge package.
