If this was your kid pulling that stunt on other people would you call it a craigslist lesson learned? No, you would ring his neck! My guess is this kid has no one who has taught him how to conduct himself in business or life.

How is this o.k. with you guys?

You owe it to that kid to make sure he pays you back and make him stand up and be a guy who learns it's not o.k. to screw a guy on 50 bucks or bail on a contract because he was only gonna make 100 bucks! Are you kidding me? He signed a contract to do the job and was going to make money? That was not good enough for him? Well, get your calculator out before you bid the job man!

To be clear, I am not saying beat his ass. I am saying be a pain in his ass like your old man was to you. Teach him it is not o.k. to screw you, or any other customer from here on out. I don't know the guy but the fact that he gave 50 back means he is probably a decent guy on hard times but if you show him he has to be accountable for his reputation he will get his crap together instead of stringing guys along and shooting himself and his business in the foot.

A good ass chewing from my parents and knowing I disappointed them went alot further than any beating I ever took from anyone.

i got the car hauled already, thanks. i have a friend who's a cop but don't really want to put him on the spot if i don't have to. my wife says to chill out and give him one more day to come up with the cash. he just re-posted another add on craigslist for his business, it's taking me everything to not post a beware of ept safe moving above his post. guess i'll give it some time.

$50. ? I wish the few times I have been ripped it had only been for that amount. Here is what I would do. See if he has a business license. You normally can do a search on line at the state site. If you find it, file a complaint. You also can write a description as a warning to others who take the time to check him out.

I've lost alot more money than that and never pursued it just for my own sanity. I chalked it up in the learning column. I became wise very fast. Ha!

it's not even the $50.00 that's the main issue, if he would just talk to me like a man, or when you tell someone you'll call them right back and don't, that's what pisses me off!

Just called him, after I asked where my money is he kinda stammered and said he would have it soon. He said "your number came up as out of town". I told him he quit answering my calls he said he was sorry and would have it soon. By the way I called him from a Chicago area code. Maybe 5-10 more calls from different area codes will spook him into paying.

Cut your losses and walk away. Just be happy that he doesn't have your car, anybody that will screw you out of 50.00 won't stop there.

Hey Bungle, do you have PayPal? I'll wire you $50.00.

I'm not made of money, but the kangaroo court bullshit around here ought to stop.

Agreed the amount ($50.00), isn't a lot of money. Personnally, I would take every legal option available to get my monies owed..it is a matter of principal..period. We have a lot of enablers here apparently, which in turn allows this kind of low life activity to continue. Stand up for what's yours, and don't be another statistic. I refuse to be taken advantage of..especially from some deadbeat low life scum. Too many people would just let it go..that is how, and why these bottom feeders exist.

It's been established this guy isn't a man. I really don't think he's worth the trouble, there's way too much scum out there to lose sleep over.

A lot more bad than good can come of this situation from this point on.

thanks man but i wouldn't think of it. the owner of the chevy that i was going to get this guy to ship also wanted to give me the $50 but i couldn't accept. that would just be like this guy scammed you guys instead of me. no way. it's my fault. but it really makes me feel a lot better having you guys for advice.
i wouldn't have even given the guy a deposit, but i know it's common practice when you get something shipped.
anyway, you are definately a stand up guy.
my cop friend is gonna give me a call tonight and we'll see what happens.
    thanks again

  15. I look at threads like the one where a guy was taking a 36 sedan and making a 5 window coupe out of it, and then there's this thread.

Sorry, I could not just let it ride. In my 64 years I've had enough "life" lessons. Have a buddy call the jerk and explain that by noon tomorrow , if the money is not returned you will go to the BBB and small claims and explain what happens there. By the way, the BBB keeps records on businesses that are not members. It's a good idea to call them before gett'n involved with a company your gonna have to depend on.

Let's see... The thread I read just before this one, the gentleman there has just learned he has cancer. Kind of puts this $50 incident in perspective, doesn't it?

At least you didn't know him. I had a guy from my 'then' car club trade me some wheels and a blower for my $500 Cherokee. The wheels were worth more than the truck. So a couple of weeks go by and the police show up and say the wheels/blower were stolen. Great. I call my 'friend' and he says he didn't know they were stolen(ha!) but he'll give me the Cherokee back or the $500. The police asked to make a statement and I then found out that he has a record.

That was the first couple weeks of Jan. I've never heard from him again and to top it all off, all of the 'friends' in the club(s) think I'm the jerk. It really sucked. I'm out the money, the truck and still don't have anything to drive after we sell the wife's car to put towards the 'zine.

The good news is I never have to speak to him again. I'm done with car clubs for awhile.

I'll second that. Hearing what people would do to get $50 is crazy! Did he rip you off $50. Yeah. Did you learn from it. Yeah. Move on. Life's short.

You taking him to court and trying to add thousands on top for fees and crap is much worse. Don't succumb to this level.

I most likely either screw up or get poked for a $50 every other day. In most cases I'm just happy it was only a $50, which is about what it costs to eat at a B grade restaurant.

It's just not worth popping that last vein in my fore head and watching the lights go out over it.

You're really lucky you didn't get poked harder, your story in my opinion had you walking on your hands. Be pissed at yourself but thank the lucky star that you didn't get really opened up.

Wow, just think what could have happened if he had actually transported your vehicle.
I bet it would "disappear" along the way.

  29. I have been transporting for over 27 years & have never asked for a deposit, sure I have been screwed once or twice by someone who confirms a transport & then backs out after I line up connecting transports, but I believe most people are good for there word. Never deal with a transporter that wants a deposit. Next time see my add in the HAMB O Dex
