Looking to maybe go this year, looking for those that are going or have gone, for when are preferred days to go and reasonalble, decent hotel sites that are not high dollar. Trying to make a decision when, where to go not go. Seems like it might be fun, curious for those who have gone and their experiences. Thanks
My wife and I went 2 years ago Sunday thru Wednesday and had a great time including meeting a lot of fun people. By Wednesday it was starting to get pretty crowded and since we are the "older" generation and not into big lines we left but always hope to return. For me personally the tribute they did for the vets was outstanding and something I will always remember. I would guess finding a room at a reasonable price now is going to be hard to do. We did drive my truck to the event and I have to say Louisiana has some of the worst roads I've ever been on! Hope you get to go and enjoy it as much as we did.
stude55dog, can you please elaborate on the event? Event name, date, location? Just wondering if you're referring to the Cruisin' the Coast event that's held annually in the Gulf Coast area. If not, I'd like more info on the event. I'm not too far from the coast and may be interested in checking it out. Thanks. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
You can google cruisin the coast and get all the info you need. I believe there are three of the events throughout the summer. The one at the end of sept. is in Mississippi and I belive the next one is in the Fla. panhandle in nov. Tim
The event is in early Oct. The web site for the event is Cruisin the coast.com. They have all info there. It sounds like a lot of fun. Let me know what ya think? I am on the fence now about going. Thanks
stude55dog- if you weren't referring to CTC, then disregard the following comment: I've been to Cruisin' the Coast for the past four or so years, and if you've never been I would recommend going. My only gripe is that the event is a little too commercialized for my liking. Not knocking the event, just my personal opinion. The hotel rates for the week of the event are also pretty outrageous and rooms are nearly impossible to find this close to the event date (speaking from personal experience). There are also more late model vehicles than I particularly care to see, but all in all I think it's a good event for any automotive enthusiast to attend. On the other hand, the event is huge and you are bound to see something that'll spark your interest. Tons of places to shop and restaurants in the area too, if you're into that.
You are right about the money grubbing going on there .When I first went there 14 years ago it was loud raucous fun, and you didn't have to spend your last piaster, now they charge a ridiculous amount to allow you to browse parts in the coliseum. Not the car auction, just to look at the car hardware companies are showing. I have seen higher cost menus at the resturants than from a week earlier. And rooms...dont even ask.Nothing like it down south but please quit gouging the little guy!
Talk about gouging!! At last Saturdays "Shades" in Pigeon Forge, I decided to leave my roadster in the trailer as it is not very rain friendly. Since the car had to be registered & present "on the grounds" if picked to win the give-a-way car I parked in the Splash Country/Dollywood lot. The sign had prices posted, i.e.; valet parking $37.00 (the highest), RV $28.00, etc. Was charged ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100.00) because I had a trailer with a hot rod in it!! Good reason to finally put the side curtains on.
You might check the hotels off the beach, there's so much stuff going on & spread out that you aren't going to be too far by staying off the beach and higher priced beach hotels. The non-chain ones on the beach are cheaper, I have family that comes in and stays at a motel in Biloxi for 80.00 a night but they reserve it when they're there year prior. Ocean springs is an option still close to Biloxi, 15 min. To beach and it's a nice area so you don't have to worry bout gettin jacked. As for CTC, it's like any big pre-85 car show except the venue is the best I've ever seen with miles and miles of beach hwy.90 and that's what makes it worth coming. Plenty of pre-65 traditional stuff to check with more than probably 10k Cars this year. We plan a hamb meet n greet at a restaurant/bar in Gulfport called Mikes Speakeasy on Thursday, at 6-8 so if you're around holler at us. If you need specific advice on a hotel location message me and I'll try to help, I live in the area and can let you know if it's a hotels in a good area or not. Bay St. Louis, long beach are nice for more laid back Time, if you're wanting to stay in the heart of things I wouldn't stay east of ocean springs or west of Gulfport, just depends on what you're looking for.
We are going down from Ct with 6 cars. Leaving Sept 30 going to Ohio, to pumpkin run. Then leave on Sunday (12hr ride) to crusin the coast! A new venture for us!
The event in the Florida Pan Handle is in Panama City Beach the first week in November. Its called Cruisin The Emerald Coast. Lots of beach cruising, nightly entertainment, 10K cash drawing, and great sea food. Anyone need a great beach house rental at a reasonable rate let me know. Gary
I HEARD THAT CTC IS EXPECTING AROUND 8000 CARS THIS YEAR EACH YEAR ME & BUD ALWAYS HAVE A GREAT TIME AND I CANT WAIT
thats just the registered ones, I know quite a few with nice rides who quit registering and I'm certain a few thousand show up that don't cause of the steep reg. fee.
