Finally got to do some racing at Gunnedah this past weekend. The crew chief was along this time as we were combining a race weekend with a trip to Newcastle to visit elderly parents in age care. A seven hour trip up the Newell highway goat track had her pondering the wisdom of coming along but she knew how badly I wanted to go racing. After a night of sleeping on the floor of the trailer, Saturday started as a fine day with gusty winds. I was using my spare engine as I hadn't had a crank ground to replace the broken one so wasn't sure how it would hold up. This engine hasn't been run under race conditions so it was **** it and see. First run the clutch was slipping badly. A quick adjustment and out for another test run. That's a Porsche Cayenne I'm blitzing.
Unfortunately the timing system had gremlins for the rest of the day and the 'tree was having issues the next day so there was no actual compe***ion as everything was heads up racing working off lights on one side of the 'tree. Oh well, lots of practice runs, 14 runs for the weekend and except for the clutch adjust after the first run I didn't open the toolbox. All runs were between 9.2 and 8.89 with the exception of the last run which I ****ed up by not engaging first gear properly. As I launched it jumped out of gear, I slammed it back in and fishtailed for a lazy 10.7. Unfortunately I didn't have the camera on for this run. This video is a case of being severely beat by a Hotrod with a Chev. Back tomorrow when I load more videos.
