I loved Gus's garage as a youngster. Did not know he started so long back.

  8. I had not thought about poplar mechanix in decades until today. did a internet search for Gus garage and there it was! I had a uncle who was a brainiack. He read the entire excyclopedia when he was a teen. And He subscribed to all kinds of magazines. And we got them when he finished reading them. He only read something one time. and remembered everything he read. Nobody would play cards with him. he knew every card in everyones hand. Knew the odds on gambling and would go to vegas and clean up.

My dad subscribed to Popular Science when I was a kid, and every month the first thing I'd read was The Model Garage. :) I also was fascinated by the illustrations in the Hints From the Model Garage.

Always loved The Model Garage! My favorite moment in every story: When Gus pauses, tamps tobacco into his pipe and calmly reflects on the facts. The pause is Gus mentally shifting into overdrive.

My favorite recurring character: Silas Barnstable. What a walking load of ...
