Looks like it has the high performance domed pistons in it.

I still have all my manuals...(Old ones, especially) There is a current interest to destroy old books, and look to the internet.
"We must change our history..." Yeah. But for whose benefit?

As for info, I still use Motors', Chiltons, and best: National Service Data. Mine start with 1934.
Classic Gary has taken it some steps further. I applaud him.

around here they go for 250 to 300 at the swap meets. but like Studebaker eric said when you need one you wont find one.

  7. So I'd look at those things mentioned here-
And check which crank is in there and if its usable.
If it needs completely rebuilt vs not.

Is it std bore? Pretty tough to find if it is, I've only seen one std 327 in the last ten years, and its in my garage.;)

Awesome book. Have you ever thought of scanning it and sharing for all? I don't think this resource can be found on the net!
    Thanks again man!

If you really want a standard bore 327,you're looking at it.
Myself? If I was looking for that block and it's really nice,500 bucks won't matter in the long run.

If its std bore, and a 327 is what you want, (Its sure as hell what I wanted) you should be prepared to pay some $$. Fact is, you may never find another std bore block. I got mine cheap, but I got lucky. I paid $150 for mine with a pair of 461's, but I would have went a lot higher if I'd had to. Like Truckedup says, once its been sitting in your garage for a while, you'll forget about paying over the odds, but you sure wont forget you have a nice std core sitting there.
How much does he want for it?

If you have to bore it / regrind crank= use the same 327/350 block to build a 383. The piston sets are under $100 new and the new Scat cranks are $169. Looks the same from the outside with 56 more cubic inches. More power for the same bucks- good luck.

^^If you plan to do this, leave the 327 for someone that will do it properly. 350 blocks are a dime a dozen, and if you want to build a Car Craft motor, use one of those, instead of screwing up a good 327 core...

The deal with the 3rd letter in the suffix code as stated refers to the carb used. It is usually on late 65 and 66 blocks and had to do with the federally mandated emissions that came around in 67 or so. Prior to all states having to have the emissions on there. It was required in California only. So Chevy had to note which carb was to be used for emissions (A.I.R.) it had the H (Holley) R (Rochester) or C (Carter). As soon as the federal law took over for all states (I think it was 68 model year) they dropped the 3rd letter as they all had the same emissions equipment.

  17. Yea! What he said!!!
Some of us have to take a 350 and build a 327 out of it.

Besides, Scat doesnt make 3.75 small journal cranks till you get up to the F-43 series, over a grand just for the crank, and all so you can turn your sj 327 into a "flavour of the week" Car Craft motor...;)

Good virgin small journal 327's are worth keeping for sure. Seems like they should be worth more, but it will be if you pass it up and then need one as others have suggested. Small journal 327 built properly with a little compression; top of my list.

Good idea but I am going for something a little more traditional. I plan on leaving it wrapped up in the basement just incase. Insurance I guess you would call it. I love the 1965 327 that is in my 55 right now. It has been rebuilt and runs like a dream.

I called the guy tonight and told him what the 327 came out as. He was good about it and I plan on talking to him in the next couple days. The deal is done at this point when I get it home I will take some pics. He said it was still a 4 inch bore. He used a set of verniers to check.

If you want to build a "Car Craft " engine- how about a CERV 1 replica using cheap E-bay turbo's ?? Interesting article in CC. There was a recent post on the HAMB about an old CERV engine. Its HAMB -LOGIC.

I posted some photos on that Cerv thread. I'll have to take a look at Car Craft when I pick up my TRJ on Saturday...
