Don't forget the added bonus of not having to run a registration or inspection sticker.:D

  2. I guess Im the one to blame for the manufacture/make screw up since I started the thread. I am suprised at the response though, some good info in here no matter where you live.

One possible drawback here in NY. The ways our DMV laws are written you must maintain isurance on the car. If you want to cancel the ins, you need to turn in your plates. So here if you put your car up for a while for repair or refurbishment, you would need to tkeep the ins intact, or surrender your plate/s. I suppose you could alway apply for regular historic plates then surrender them, instead of the YOM's.

I cheated. I got personalized plates and then had YOM plates made. No problems from the fuzz.

Sounds like we're lucky in Oregon. We can run YOM plates and you can get them permanently registered as a specialty vehicle. To top that off if you do, you can run just the rear plate. Good luck to you guys in the other states!

This is on my '29 CCPU. The easiest way to find out if your YOM plates are valid is to skip plugging a parking meter and see if you get a ticket!

I finally sent my YOM plate application in today. Here in South Carolina its treated as a personalized plate, only requirements are that it HAS to be the actual year of manufacture, and it HAS to be a South Carolina plate. I'm happy to run both :)

Edelbroke, I wish it was legal in Wisconsin but, no. Guvnr has proposed using rear plates only.

h***led by the law is a sore subject for me right now.....but as hamber Grumpy said. We can run them in Ohio but they have to be vintage Ohio plates.

I run YOV on my cars and keep the historical plates under the seat with registration and POI. The gals at beuro told me that would be Ok

That's true of Oregon. But, when you turn in your application, it says that you will use the car only for parades, club events, etc. I have had my YOM plates on my '29 for about a year and a half, and they haven't been the reason I've been pulled over yet.

I got the same answer as Brad did, from the Linn County Courthouse. I've been running '64 plates on the turd he**** ever since (a couple thousand miles) with no problems yet.

OK! Only recently started hearing about YOM plates. I presently have current year Md Historic plates on my 62 Oldsmobile.

I read thru all 6 pages of this thread and didnt find anyone or any comments from Md. So does anyone out there know what it takes to run YOM on a historic car in Md? (Besides a set of plates of the proper year)

Whats the fee and is it yearly or once in a lifetime?

  16. Im hoping Popo can help us out on this one, I guess I dont know your turd he****! You goin to the CR swap meet next weekend? Hope the weather holds out but I dont think I will be in the wag, still some issues to sort out.

Never a problem in Texas. Don't need a front LP when running antique plates nor do you need an inspection. Officers won't h***le us unless we give them a reason to.

Sure! I'll be at Hawkeye Downs swap meet.... right now there's nothing I'm really looking for but I can't resist the thrill of the hunt. I doubt I'll drive the Merc though, I always end up parking ***hole deep in mud.

No problem with mine her in GA. Just keep the paperwork from DMV and the regular tag in the vehicle. I was lucky. Back in the day, the first digits on the tag designated the actual county where the tag was issued. '48' in my case. I found a correct Habersham County tag. I did a little restoration on it and it came out ok.

Im going to work tomorrow and I'll bring my Law book back home with me. I will look it up in there rather than asking people because people "make their own laws sometimes."

I'll get back you IA guys before Monday, give me a day or so to read all the plate info pages, probably about 20 pages referring to registration and requirements and its Easter weekend.

Ok guys I found the answer:

    321.98 Operation without registration.

A person shall not operate, and an owner shall not knowingly permit to be operated upon any highway any vehicle required to be registered and ***led hereunder unless there shall be attached thereto and displayed thereon when and as required by this chapter a valid registration card and registration plate or plates issued therefor for the current registration year and unless a certificate of ***le has been issued for such vehicle except as otherwise expressly permitted in this chapter. Any violation of this section is a simple misdemeanor punishable as a scheduled violation under section 805.8A, subsection 2, paragraph "b".

    321.99 Fraudulent use of registration.

A person shall not knowingly lend to another a registration card, registration plate, special plate, or permit issued to the person if the other person desiring to borrow the card, plate, or permit would not be en***led to the use of it. A person shall not knowingly permit the use of a registration card, registration plate, special plate, or permit issued to the person by one not en***led to it, nor shall a person knowingly display upon a vehicle a registration card, registration plate, special plate, or permit not issued for that vehicle under this chapter. A person convicted of a violation of this section is guilty of a simple misdemeanor punishable as a scheduled violation under section 805.8A, subsection 2, paragraph "d".

I interpret this to include any "special" plate you mount to your vehicle.

It's up to your local law enforcement to determine if it is illegal or if you will be cited for the crime.

Even as a hot rodder at heart, I would still most likely make the owner get out and switch back to the vehicle registered plate issued the current year by the DOT.

The idea is for, If someone steals your Rod, I can only know if its stolen by running the plate and it coming back in NCIC as stolen, if you have plates that don't come back with a current registration, I WOULD NEVER KNOW ITS STOLEN, and you wouldnt get your ride recovered.

In Maryland you can run the YOM plates.?To do this you have to take the plates to DMV (they want to see they are in good condition and correct for the car) They will give you a registration card for that plates but you have to keep your current plates in the car as they have the current stickers on them.If they run the tag number it comes back to you and your car......

Thanks for looking it up, PoPo. I wonder why the Linn County Courthouse told me to just go ahead an mount the YOM plates? **Sorry I couldn't meet up with you guys at Hawkeye Downs on Saturday. My girlfriend planned a big weekend for our "anniversary" and for some reason didn't plan it around the swap meet.

  30. Yeah, thanks PoPo, I will print this off and show the local sheriff and see what he says, I will also try to get a pic of his old squad car, its a 66 I think and way cool.
