Saw a thread about someone afraid to deal with a HAMBer that hadn't posted much. I have to say, other than my intro post, I haven't posted much either. I was a drag racer in the 70s, quit when I got married in 1980. First marriage really WAS a mistake, lol. Last year we bought, and restored, a '68 Camaro, not exactly OT for here, but I was referred here by the long time custom and hot rodder that did most of the work on the Camaro. He knew my real interest was older hot rods. Current project is a 36 Buick street rod. The thing is, my knowledge is so outdated, and so many of you have so much more knowledge, that my posting seems to me a waste of your, the reader's time. When we get the Buick closer to an interesting stage, I will post something, or if I have specific knowledge to answer a poster's question, I am happy to post help. For the most part, I am here to soak up the knowledge from you folks, and add what little I can. I'm sure there are a lot of people just like me, perfectly honest and NOT here just to take advantage of the forums, that would love to post if we thought it was going to be worthwhile to a reader. Don't prejudge us for our lack of posts, but know that we love this hobby as much as anyone, we just don't have as much to contribute yet.

Well Said - I get a real buzz when I am actually able to help out - other than that I just soak up the knowledge - not been a member for very long but I am really impressed with the sense of community there is on this site and the wealth of information, not to mention the humour!

There is no such thing as an 'uninteresting' stage that your buick can be in. There is no such thing as 'outdated knowledge' and there is no such thing as 'wasting the readers time'. Do not sell you or your car short on here, true HAMBR's are interested, curious and looking to learn smething new. Post it up. Love them Buicks!

I hardly posted to until i found something i liked or had intrest in. I look on here every day to see what has turned up. As far as helping go ahead and comment someone might understand the way you look at there problem in the old school way versus the new way. You never no how or whats gonna turn up when you make a comment.

I think its a good idea not to post too soon. If you use the "R" word or don't use the search function the keyboard bullies will really tear into you. Learn the ropes before you stick your neck out...

I mainly read and don't post because I have a farm business, so I don't have extensive hot rod knowledge to contribute .

I love hot rods though, and this place is mini a vacation each day when I turn it on.

The first year I think I posted about 20 times, now I am putting my A build on here hopefully to get input from wiser rodders, and I'm sure some will find it boring, while others will find it interesting.

  9. lvlynrd....i know you're talking about my thread from last night....I tried to clarrify myself a couple times. I wasn't trying to say people with low post counts know any less or are any less trust worthy. I was just asking fellow hambers for the safest way about going through with a transaction with someone I do not know. They responded with telling me to call the guy and insist on using paypal....good advise. Didn't mean to piss anybody off.... Well all had no posts at one time, no?<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_6123189", true); </SCRIPT>

You just need to have thick skin and don't let the A$$holes bring you down. There is always going to be someone that has to say something bad just because they can. I just look at like this Don't sweet the small stuff and Everything is small. If want to post than do it. If you don't Don't. I will say the HAMB is the best place to find infomation on cars and trucks.....

"God gave you 2 ears and one mouth for a reason" I believe this applies here.

  12. I was a member for two years before I said one word. Now, I don't shut up! Ha!

  13. Some people just have more to say than others.I noticed one hamber on here went from fng to old school hamber in a couple of years cause he had a lot to say.
Remember, its the internet, not a meeting hall. You don't have to read or pay attention to anything anyone says if you don't like it.You will probably never meet many of us.I am sure you have some knowledge of use to someone else. When the time arises, post it.

If I owned a HAMB friendly car I would post more.
In the meantime I like to soak up all the great rides, build pictures, and knowledge so I can better decide what type vehicle to eventually get.

I need your help to get to 10,000 posts.

  17. I need to say that a lot of my posts only add fuel to the fire.

There used to be a fella that posted long tech posts some of them pretty good albiet plagarized. Dishonest as the day is long in his business dealings also. I suppose that posting doesn't make you honest.

Being honest makes you honest. I look at every transaction this way if it works out that's a good thing and if it doesn't, well you probably shouldn't have stolen from me.

Anyway don't sweat it. No one is required to peddle stuff to you any more then you are required to buy something from someone. If someone has something that you want and they don't want to sell to you they probably don't have the only one in existance. They may have even done you a favor by not selling to you.

Post if you want or don't post if you don't want. Its not a problem either way. At least with me its not.

Wouldn't that actually be 2 eyes and 10 fingers? No I guess that one just wouldn't work out in this situation. Sorry. :D

There are all sort of HAMB members. Whether you are active or passive, everybody learns something here.
If you have interests in cars, whether it be a 1909 or 1999. The HAMB is the place for car guys.
Sure there are only certain types of cars written about here, it is a specialty forum --and there are many out there. But if you have something to contribute, then speak up. Otherwise, just read, laugh, or learn.

  19. I'd like to see pics of the buick. Let us know which direction your headed with it, powertrain choice , etc.... As far as contributions, there must be somethings you have learned on this build the hard way, pass that along to those that might not be that far down the road (I'd like to keep my expensive lesson list as short as possible)

LOL! What happens at 10,000 posts?

Hey lvlynyrd, post some old 70's pics of the drag strips and don't forget the 36 buick.

The way I see it is, the grand dragons didn't know $h!t at one point in their rod building life and had to learn somewhere, so who gives a snot if they think your dumb as a box of chicken beaks and who cares if you just don't post anything here and sit there like bumps on a pickle. Bahahah! Who cares!
But yeah, if you got some of pics I'd like to see'em along with the 36. Thanks man.

I wonder... if some of the guys who don't post much, don't post much 'cause they're out workin' on their hot rods...

Maybe the low posters are just out there building and driving. I don't post much, been here a few years now and have a pretty low post count. I come here, look at what interests me, find answers to questions, sometimes post what I've built or done at the weekend and go away again. Some guys have more to say and some have more to do, I'm the 'more to do' type, neither one is better than the other, just how folks are.
In the none HAMB world my mate is good at talking to people, gets on with everyone and can spend the whole of a hot rod weekend just talking, me, I don't mingle with people, not that chatty, but I build my mates car. He is my social talker and I'm his builder.

Maybe the higher the post count, the "less" they have to say?

The things you learn and the friends you make here are well worth the price of admission.

    Lvlynyrd,
i'm right there with you buddy. haven't been a HAMBer very long but lurking this site has done wonders for my knowledge base on traditional hot rods. Building a muscle car ain;t nuttin compared to building a "hot rod". One of my excuses for not posting so much is that i am always in the shop working on the 31, just ask my wife.
and my beards been white for quite some time.....

Smart ass. I forgot to say "metaphorically speaking". Are you related to my old lady? She picks apart everything I say in a feeble attempt to try and belittle me.

I'm joking BTW for those of you that might get your panties in a bunch.

Me too. Also the winter sucks up here. Frigging COLD! But still, I get out and pick away at it when I can... and in a couple of months it'll be warm again and I'll be covered in grease, rust and happy.

I am a new member and I don't have much knowledge of substance to contribute. However, I am paying attention and have already learned quite a bit. Particularly, I am encouraged to forge ahead looking at all that many have accomplished. As far as being leary, I posted what I thought was an innocent comment about myself on someone else's thread and he took it the wrong way and gave me the what for. So until I get the culture and get my project under way, I won't be posting much either.
