Nothing wrong with welcoming a new person. I do it all the time, usually someone I share a common interest with (same state/town/car/job/name etc) or they write a really great intro that hits home with me. The point I was making earlier that there are some that go down the intro page and welcome 20+ members/day without ever starting a post or replying to other topics. If only 0.1% of the members did that there would be 2,000+ welcome posts a day that would certainly bog down the HAMB. I guess I just don't see why they would have thousands of posts with nothing but 'welcome from ...' unless they like looking at their post count. There is nothing wrong with a sincere Welcome to the HAMB.

I agree ...and try to welcome a few new members every time I visit the site...seems like that's the least I can do....when I joined it felt good to be Welcomed...

I come to this site at least twice a day since I found it on a google search. I cruised in the background for about a month before joining. Did my intro as requested and enjoyed the welcomes. I do not have half the knowledge or expertise as probably 80% of the guys on here. I have been guilty of adding "great looking car" or something else, but never to add to my post count. Hell I never even realized that was down below my avatar until about post number 50. I have made some comments and been shot down by some select few, who knows why? But that won't stop me from coming back. I am sure we all are guilty of getting information from the experienced knowledgeable ones and not posted a thank you(Thanks Denise for pointing that out), but if we knock the new joiners, we may also be driving away the future of our sport, and heaven knows that the powers that be in State and Federal levels of government are trying their best to outlaw our sport. So I say can't we all just get along. What does it matter how many posts we do or do not have. My favorite day is Friday and the art show on here, but that is another subject(I can't draw either).

Well ,here I am at almost 4 years on the H.A.M.B. and only made 418 posts. I've learned a lot, done business with a few, post when I feel I have something valid to say.
I've never had a bad experience buying parts or services on the H.A.M.B.,but I tend to trust the people here and in general to live up to an agreement. once you have been here for awhile
you will have a good felling about who you deal with.

Amen!!! I've always had some kind of older ride to fool with, but my lingo doesn't match today's vehicle adjetives, causing me confussion....HaHaHa. So if I posted more, heck I might really get some of you who are more up to date than me, really confussed.

Example, I've always called the rearend a "third member", now I hear them called "chunk", "pumpkin" and "hoghead".....which all works for me, but took me awhile.

I just enjoy reading as much as anything..........wish I could contribute more.

    Thanks.

some of the best posts i have seen have been from members with less then 50 posts. i don't care about introductions or high numbers of postings.

    That's the best answer.
I've seen and read posts from many members that have post counts that elevate rapidly but contain no relevant content.
Like many before me have said some of us come here to read and learn.

I'm just finishing a 1938 Buick restoration, and getting ready to start on a 1930 Buick Resto-Rod. I'd love to see your '36.

I asked for a pic of a rear end set up from a high poster, blew me off. Must not be cool enough yet.

  11. not having a "word filter" is great because other sites seem to encourage "hand holding" and "no fucking thanks!":rolleyes:

Just a great place to vent and get information when you need help or look at the cool projects everyone is working on...........

  13. I'd like to think I can offer useful info and do try to encourage, especially the folks learning and just starting out. Still I find myself posting less and less and I'm not sure why. Part of it is that there are so many folks I know someone else will jump in with the info. Kinda pathetic, huh.

The general feel used to be about what you could build and there is still a lot of that but there is a lot more "buy it" creeping in with the attitude, why build when you can get the credit card out. I've actually had guys ask me why I built something when I could get it at... Oh brother. Kinda takes motivation away to share what I've tossed together. OK, I'll quit venting

The "Hokey Ass Message Board"....I thought about what this meant the other day.
I imagine it was started for folks/freinds to share ideas and show what they were building as far as traditional hotrods and customs go.
That may still be the case, but alot of the "good stuff" simply gets "lost", due to the sheer volume of threads, (many from newer folks not searching and covering a topic that's already been covered MANY times).
Pretty much any question pertaining to building a traditional hotrod has already been covered....only now most threads are a pissing match.

HAMBER's that don't post may just feel they don't have anything to offer anymore or are just done with the B.S.....everything has pretty much been done.

I hotroded in the 60's and it was build the fastest, coolest car with the best parts you could find and afford But when I posted I got slammed. I was told to move on to another forum cause the HAMB is not about building hotrods its about building TRADITIONAL hot rods. so I feel your pain and mostly read instead of post (not gonna trade my 671 for a 235-6 with a couple of stombergs ) and i'm not dissin anyones 6 banger they are cool to

There's so many good posts on here from the people that do post now, that I dont think I'd be able to keep up if everyone threw in their 2 cents!!!

been on here for a while just don't post much, I am just a person who likes to see what others are doing and learning from them. I have bought some stuff and sold some stuff on here and have never had a bad deal. basically if I have something to say I post , if not, I enjoy reading about other peoples projects and opinions . don't always agree but it is interesting. ALSO, I like the pre 64 only rules. plenty of sites out there to deal with the great cars made in the 60's nothing wrong with them, (i love and own some mid and late 60's stuff ) this just isn't the place to have em. just my rare 2cents worth.

I don't post because I read the rules when I started and I got the feeling I better keep my mouth shut until I knew something. But the site came well recommended so I bookmarked it and started reading. Some guys post like they shop--they know what they want, they get it, and get the hell out.

I have been looking to buy something last year and wasn't finding much that seemed do-able. But a friend of mine died suddenly a few months ago and it changed my thinking. Life is short. I found a 54 Rocket 88 and plan on learning everything I can to keep it rolling. I like cars from the sixties too, but I am lucky to own a car from the height of style, when the Motor City rumbled.

For anyone who has ever written down instructions here, I already owe you thanks. Not everybody has folks around who know this stuff, but with the web we have a better shot than ever to figure it out or find some crusty carb to drag home.

If we kept track of views, I'd be set, just from the Classifieds and the Days Gone By pics!

I am a devout HAMB'R. I could not have built my first two rods with out this forum and the many good people and good advise i received here, however i quit tuning in as much as i was simply because you had a few a-holes on here that would beat the shit out of any post they thought they could stretch out with their smart ass comments. I realize the old days here on the hamb were harsh for some of the new comers, but to beat the hell out of a kid that ask what he believes to be a relevant question pertaining to traditional rods and customs and to be belittled is simply uncalled for....just my 2 cents
