I have a standard HEI dist from a sbc. I've attached a diagram. (****py hand drawing) Can some one please explain to me were each of the wires go? Thanks!
3 wire plug from the distributor plugs into the cap closest to the center, the B terminal connects to the hot side of the ignition switch. Pretty simple. Unless you're missing parts...or trying to use a comptuer controlled or ESC HEI without it's computer or ESC....then things get more complicated.
No, no computer. So the three wire plug closest to the distributor.... They all go in to the distributor. B+, grd and C-. Do those hook up to the coil in the cap? If so is C- the negitive side of the coil? and B+ the positive side? The other to outer wire are simple enough "Batt and Tach" Thanks for the links Mercman51, great reading there.
yes those wires hook the coil to the module/pick-up inside the dist. the middle connector (ground) goes to a external ground and it MUST have a bracket that bolts under the coil (using the coil hold down bolts). the bat + goes to ign and tach is for a tach . i've seen cars burn up coils without that strap.
Makes a little more sense with the top of the cap removed. Thanks for the help guys. I figured I was in trouble when I saw the distributor cap was bigger than normal and there was no coil mounted on the intake manifold. lol
