Great advice... When your module goes... it goes. If you decide to upgrade, MSD 6AL and upgraded coil will do you wonders.
isn't their a way to check the values (ohms) in the module by itself? what i would like to able to tell if a dizzy is gonna be any good after it has been sitting around on the shelf. i usually just buy a new module but it would be nice to have a "test hei) to fire of old motors that have also been sitting.
If you take the module out of the distributor and mount it in a cooler place such as under the dash, it will last almost forever. 13 years and counting for my truck. I got so tired of changing them under the hood, I decided to mount TWO under the dash, and use a switch so I could simply flip a switch and keep on driving. Never had a failure yet, since the modules are in a cooler place. Some day when the old one dies, I will simply flip a switch and use the second one.
wow what a great idea! i used to keep extra one in the glovebox with tools to change it out along with a can of compressed air, the kind for cleaning keyboards and would hold it upside down in hopes the propellant would cool of the module and it worked enough to get me home so i could replace one in my driveway. drilling small hole in cap where module is mounted and dab of rtv to seal it you stick the nozzel through so you don't even have to remove cap, no tools required just crossed fingers!
I've had a pickup coil go bad on me. The car would shut off when it got warm. Once the motor cooled down, it would start & run fine until it got warm again.
