hi guys, i,m new here. tried sending this earlyer today but cant find it. so will try again. i am building a new HA/GR and have a few questions. what should wheel bace be? was thinking somewhere around 110" or so. next i have seen some with hard tail rears and some with springs. would like some thoughts on that. being fron the south east i hope there are other HA/GR people on the right cost. thanks for your time and HEADS UP RACEING FOR EVER.
Hi Pappy..That sounds wierd for a guy my age(73) to be calling you Pappy.he he he Any how. Most are solid mout rears. and wheel base somewhere in between 100"- 125" seems to be the normal.. If you are just starting, Look back in the archives and you'll find alot of good info in there.. Good luck on your build,, BTW. We need to see photos as you go along with your build. Just for intrest purposes of course....****...
I live down south of you, Florida. I've had one built for three years now, still working on it a little at the time. Welcome to the board! Robert
glad to here there is someone that close. hope to see you at a H.A.M.B. event next year. have you ever posted any pictures of your dragster? thanks, pappy.
I would go with 125 inches because you're going to want to put radiator and gas tank in front of the engine. If you don't have a raditor then someone has to go down and tow you back after every run. Also it is easier to have a solid mount rear end but I think it is harder on the driveline. If you watch HA/GR's take off like 2B or Cowboy Bob you'll notice that the rear tires jump off the ground when the clutch is popped. I think that when the driveline is loaded and then unloaded it causes a lot of our clutch and trans problems. Just my 2 cents worth.Roy
greatings Roy, i need input like this. i have built and ran a few old g***ers years ago but never had any dealings with a hard tail set up. thanks for your help. pappy.
Welcome to the board pappy. Lots of fun growing in these cars and lots of room to be creative. Looking forward to seeing another HA/GR coming together. Post pictures as you go, it helps to inspire us all to see how each build develops. Like the roadster in your avatar, what are the details on it?
Pappy you might want to check out a ford festive radiator they are small ,light, and will do the job and with a 10 inch electric fan on its own swicth, no problems
Pappy, I will be running at the HAMB drags next year, been there the last three years and do not plan on missing it as long as I am able to pull that far. Another one you might want to try is the "Run what ya brung" at Reynolds in Georgia. It is a small gathering that is getting bigger each year. Just a laid back Saturday afternoon of drag racing. Robert
Thanks Robert, hope i,ll be ready. i started on my frame this week. when you get a date on the Georgia race p*** it on. would love to go thanks again,Pappy.
