and laugh .. "High caliber restoration of a 50’s style street rod ".. Just thought it was funny...

Now you done it Rob, that add will get a thousand hits just from the guys who went an looked for it for the laugh.
That usually tells me that the car is for sale by a flipper or a dealer who doesn't know all that much about real hot rods or the difference between a hot rod and a street rod.

Henry Gregor Felson wrote a book in 1953 with a definition of the term right on the cover.

    It's a "stripped-down souped-up bomb on wheels"

Oh Oh, looks like the debate over traditional is about to begin.....again. Got my feet up and watching....

  12. I read that book when I was in 7th or 8th grade!
It’s about a high school kid that builds a 39 Ford Coupe show car. All the teen drama included.

  13. If there is a book from the same era called 'Rat Rod', then I fear the earth may be about to spin off it's axis...

brace yerself for the reckoning! :D

  14. Is the main character’s name Ricky? Would the car in the book be a 39 or 40 Ford? Did an older fella by the name of Merle help him fix it up?

Whew! I am glad that you didn't say, "There's some sensitive big bitches around here". Because that would have offended me!

I recall a book I read like that when I was a teen. I think the main character's name was Ricky Madison.

me too and 6th grade and 8th grade, I "recycled" those book reports for years. Henry Gregor Felsen was like a hero to me, the stories seemed so real, Imagine the thrill for me when he was a special guest at the 1992 Holland Mi KKOA leadsled spectacular

  28. Someplace I have a photo of an indoor car show in 1958. it had overhead signs designating the class of cars in specific areas of the show, in the for ground there were "Street Rods" in the back ground you could see "Customs" in one area and "Hot Rods" in another area. looking at the photo I am not sure what separated a street rod from a hot rod but there was obviously some distinction.

We often use Street Rod as a derogatory term but it is a term the predates what we don't consider to be our kind of car by decades.
