I've decided to go to hairpin style radius rods on my fenderless 32 roadster.. My problem is which ones do I want to use? Do I want 27" or 36" or something else? I'd also like to know if anyone knows of someone selling gusseted hairpins.

    Thanks,
    Tequila Bob

I think the length depends on the style of the car or personal preference. Check out Rjays...alliance vendor. I like the style of his gusseted hairpins and the service is top notch.

    3kross and sko_ford like this.
  3. Longer generally look better, check out So Cal Speed shop and Pete & Jakes, they both make nice hair pin radius rods.

  4. I think 36" is about right. I like it when they are anchored to the frame at, or just behind the firewall.

As noted, SoCal Speed Shop and Pete and Jakes make good stuff. When you use hairpins in front you will need compatible bat wings.

I just got a set of Jitny bat wings, hairpins, and spring from Walden Speed Shop. Nice stuff. They are gusseted at the joint where the three tubes come together. Walden can sell you conventional, spring above bat wings or there unique spring behind versions. Pricy but ever so cool.

How long is your drag link? If the radius rods are too much longer, you get into bump steer.

My highboy '32 has either SoCal or P & J hairpins, 36" long, and they just look right. The builders will gusset them for you for minimal cost.

What does the Walden spring behind batwing look like?
