Is there a special puller, needed to pull the bearings out of the rear cover? so far, i'm having no luck finding anything that will work.

 

Use your oven or barbecue. Heat to about 350 degrees and turn the cover over and tap lightly and they should fall out.

 

and if they don’t come out that way, get out the torch and the welder. Cut out the inner race and weld a bead on the outer race.
And hope the bearing hasn’t spun in the rear cover.

I thought about tack welding a bolt onto it, with a large socket, to make a mini slide hammer.

 

That might work.

I talked to Winters, They recommended placing the rear cover bearing side down, with spacers around, not under the bearings, then heat the cover with a propane (plumbing) torch. After a short time the bearings will just fall out.
It worked fine for me.

 

If my slidehammer doesn't work, i guess i'll be getting me a torch....

 

Small toaster ovens work great for heating parts.

 

Grilled cheese with a side bell.

 

This^^^ I’ve TIG welded a bead around the inside surface of the outside races then, as they cooled, they literally fall out from shrinkage. This works great in banjo housings bearings too.

 

I use my kerosene shop heater and a pyrometer. Once the cover is about 350 degrees, the bearings will fall out.
