Scored this cool old steering box from an old time racer today. He says it was made by Halibrand but is not stamped Halibrand anywhere. It's a good functioning unit in nice shape. I was wondering if anyone had any info Thanks Jerry Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Is the main box aluminum? Even the earliest Halibrand stuff had the name on it somewhere. Might be a prototype thing, or maybe sanded off (I doubt it). Most Halibrand parts had part numbers on the raised strip tags nailed to the pattern. Your part has stuff stamped in after manufacture, which I have never seen on Halibrand parts before.
I think magnesium with aluminum side plates.... Here's one in an old auction add. Looks similar http://66.135.209.70/itm/Vintage-Ha...teering-SCTA-Rat-Rod-/121897128417?nav=SEARCH Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Looks like a Shroeder. Normally used in sprint cars before power steering. I have one in my Lakes center steer roadster. Almost impossible to wear out as you can move the arm to a new position anytime.
It is a Halibrand. I saved this pic of one that was for sale on EBay several years ago. I think they are quite rare. Good score.
