What is the best way to stop a halibrand V* quick change from leaking It is leaking form the bolt holes. Thanks For the help.
I don't know which bolts you are talking about, but there are a few bolt holes that are in contact with oil. Usually, a small amount of silicone around the shaft of the bolt close to the head or a copper washer will do the trick. Got any pics?? -Abone.
The thru bolts on the banjo housing on the one I had used copper washers, there are gaskets because that's how you set preload on the bearings. The back plate had studs which I highly recommend and used a gasket too and none of the threads went into oil, they were dead headed. The studs we're screwed in with Permatex #2
My old QC had some 'thru-bolts' and nuts at the banjo, and I mentioned to my former partner that I'd have to get some copper washers. (Grainger had a satellite store in Campbell then, had 'em in stock) Gary said, "How about just drillin' some pennies?" (sheesh...thought I'd never get rid of him!) Ditto on studs/nuts on back plate...In fact, the bolts on the bells were replaced with studs/copper washers/nuts.
We were running a high buck show that attracted several entries from outside our usual group and one of them was pitted next to us. While the car is still on the trailer, they look over the track and decide that the gear already in the car is suitable for this place. Then one of the guys asks the other if they ought to check the level of the rear end lube? His buddy sticks his head under the back of the car and says " Naw, the damn thing's still leakin so there must still be lube in there " Welcome to the wonderful world of quick change rear ends.
