This is a picture of I think the second Courtney car at LARS in '99 when my friend Jay West owned it before he sold it back to Jack Chard. I'm sure Jack could answer all your questions but I don't think he is on line.

    Hope it helps.

I have one of the copies that Rob Miller made in the 90's and it don't look like the one posted here. Rob had an original to make up his copies. He told me that when he got it the two halves were different and he had to do a lot of work to get them the same dimension. That is a cool piece but I don't think it's a Duke Hallock. I think Fred(McBay) has it right. Whoever got it is lucky. Nice piece.

    I have that book.

So I'm kinda wondering I think the grays windshield might be a little more rare? Hallock is probably more popular. Nimrods old roadster had a grays I believe. Anybody know anything about those?

This is the one from St. Paul too bad the History may end there. The G & O story is the missing link.

A Gray windshield from what I understand is different then a Hallock. you can see the differences here.

The first one is suppose to be a Gray windshield.

Second one is **** Courtneys Hallock

Third is a sellers that is pretty damn close to a Hallock.

Now where in the hell do we find out more about the Grays windshield?

Okay, the car pictured here has the EXACT frame as the St. Paul ebay frame. Any info on this car ????
The Strokers frame with the decal used in the G & O has a small radius on the lower rail (unless it is a reflection) and it also has a little different base where it attaches to the cowl. The stroker car has a decal which is the last four letters of something. I thought it might be Thomas Jefferson High Shool in LA but it is ERTON not ERSON. Any of you detectives out there may try to solve that pieice of the puzzle....:D

That one looks like it might be aluminum thought. The auction one was br***.

Found this from another post on the Hamb by JRodder

Although that is a Hallock windshield, that isn't my uncle's (**** Courtney) roadster. His was black, and didn't have the pan over the front frame horns. From what I understood, the Hallock windshield frames were made in the shop cl*** at Fullerton High School using the br*** out of melted-down surplus aircraft engines, and were all used by Knight Riders club members (although I see the Strokers banner in the picture). There were some 12-14 cast originally, and my uncle made a list of who got them all - which I have. He wound up with 3, and made 3 identical roadsters with all of them, 2 of which I believe still survive. I also have a letter written by Hallock's brother to my father (both Army Air Corps pilots and Fullerton cl***mates) explaining what he remembered of his brother's involvement with the windshield. I'll dig that stuff back out if anyone is interested. There was also an article in Street Rodder many years ago on the subject. I know some later repops of the frame have been made, surely none as sought after as the original 14.

So I would think that the auction site one was probably one of those.

  26. SUHRsc you posted that you sent JRodder a PM right after he posted back in 2010. Did you get a reply?

I found a J Courtney in Joplin but the phone was "disconnected or no longer in service".

    Fred,

The sticker on the Strokers windshield is indeed "ERTON", possibly as in Fullerton high school where coincidently Frank Currie and **** Courtney cast those windshields in shop cl***. The owner of the Strokers car could be proudly showing his school spirit from his Almamater. That shield could quite possibly be one of the Currie/Courtney ones ! I would be willing to bet that the other half of that windshield says Full.

Mcbay, the roadster in G&O ad that has (erton) belonged to Art Tremaine, pictured page 72 & 97 in Birth of Hotrodding..By googleing Art Tremaine roadster search carried me to American Hotrod Foundation where there was reference his roadster having a cut down hallock. Picture on page 72 TBOH was taken Sept 19 1948 with a w/s on a finished hotrod..Think about how long it may have taken to complete the roadster?? If it took a year or two to complete ,we are in the time frame of the w/s's that were cast in 1946 at TJHS ,in Fullerton , by Frank Currie & **** Courtney..Now were Art Tremaine and Frank Currie friends?? Frank Currie may be a connection and know about Lee Grey's ad in Hotrod May 48 , and the G&O ad in November 48...

    Jack/Bubba, Fullerton High !!

What about the roadster with the primered hood ???? Was that car in the Strokers?

The question is were they all alike or were there a couple of different patterns made.

I spoke with Chris Sheldon and he interviewed Frank Currie about the windshields. Chris said he did not recall much about them. If there was anyone else from Fullerton High.... I will ask a friend of mine to talk to Frank when he gets back from Bville.
