A few of you guys have been talking about Hershey and Carlisle. I'm more anxious this years then ever before. Let's plan a get together , I'm suggesting Fri. at 12:00 where the race cars enter the stadium?? Any ideas??There's a few food vendors there. I know some of you guys vendors spaces aren't too far away. Mine is REAL far, but I always go to see and hear them run. The race cars have their certification runs starting about 11:00. You never know what will show up. My space number is GAC25, I'm in the last row, farthest WEST on the Giant Center parking lot. JDee is just across the aisle. Post your space numbers here if you want HAMB visitors. BTW, the day parking fields are cut, the show field is already staked off, and the Orange field is paved. The WHOLE flea market will be on pavement for the first time ever. Rumor has it the car corral will be too, but the maps haven't been released yet. Post up your space numbers.

So does this mean that the car corral once again IS NOT in front of the Giant Center? If so, that blows. I HATE it being clear out in the middle of nowhere.

So, Meet and Greet at race car entrance of the stadium at noon on Friday?

Sounds good to me. Even if I am in the corral where it was last year, a mere 10 miles away. ;)

Rox, local rumor is it MIGHT be on the back of the Orange field. I will try to get a confirmation. It definately won't be in front of the Giant Center.

Rox, I got confirmation the car corral is on blacktop on Orange field. Who's going, where are your spaces? Race car certification is at 11:00 Fri. AM.

Does anyone read the Hemming's blogs? It seems as though Bruce Larson has entered Tommy Ivo's rear engine funnycar at Hershey. It will be run in the stadium Fri. for certification. Just another reason to have Hamb and chocolate!

RSB39 behind the stadium. I wont be around much Tues, Wen. (out buying)but Thur. after mid-day and should be around all day Friday. I'm camping in my spot so will be there evenings. Clark and Jr are in the next row. I'll have some sprint car kiddie rides in the spot and with ANY luck my 41 panel! I'll be off to York Saturday to set up at the pinball show.

My stickers arrived on Monday, same spot as last year on the corner of Main Street in the Chocolate field. CJ4-41-42, Brookville trailer is right behind me, good food vendor on the other corner. I better find some junk to sell in the next few weeks!

Last year's corral location was a disgrace. Anyone that has been attending Hershey for more than 10 years or so would probably agree that the internet is having a big negative effect. The difference between last year and my first year (1987) is unbelievable. I say this only because the car corral should be a focal point, not an afterthought as the traditional flea market shrinks. I still love my trip to Hershey but the chances of finding some great obscure part on the cheap are dwindling.

I am happy to hear that it will be on pavement at least near the Giant center. It is much better for business to keep all of the car buyers in one central location. Plus, the giant center has real bathrooms and I'm really a girl when it comes to porta johns!
Hopefully I'll get my corral stickers today or tomorrow. Hearing you guys got your stuff is making me nervous. I HATE having problems with them and trying to get ahold of someone. It is like pulling teeth (even once you get them on the phone;))

    Only 25 days! woohoo!

Not wanting to start any argument but I think the reason the car corral was moved is due to the flea market actually expanding. We've been attending Hershey for 8 years and were very surprised to see the flea market all around the Giant center last year along with it overflowing onto the golf course behind the Giant Center.

That being said, I agree with you that having the car corral in the mud is not my idea of fun and we're glad to see that it will be back on pavement surrounding the Orange field.

Oh, and that whole "internet" thing and it's effect on flea markets....

It's true for any hobby or other interest you have. Look at it this way, while I enjoy the "hunt & chase" part of looking for things. It's not really a bad deal to be able to chase down some parts from the comfort of your own home either. Like many things in life, it's a trade off.

Hope to see some of you there, can't wait!!

Make that a three way race, my friend!

I'm into the race cars as well. Nothing was cooler than standing next to the Bounty Hunter as the fired it up on a full load of fuel!

Not trying to continue a bad arguement either, but I have to totally disagree with the internet screwing up flea markets. More people ARE aware of value, but it also makes it better when you are selling. You don't have to explain just how rare and hardtofind the item is, the buyer should already know you are asking a fair price. I've bought and sold way more items because of the internet then I ever did before. I've sent parts to Singapore and Denmark, wouldn't have done that without the internet. Also, I think the reason flea markets are drying up is look how many cars are being built. Even the local cruise-in had doubled in the last few years, with more cars on the way. There's only so many original parts out there. Then because of the high price on the internet, it makes it possible for repros to be made.

If the Bounty Hunter can make the turn, he should be able to.

There may be more flea market "space" but the amount of pre-1970 parts per square foot has to be 25% of what it was 10 or 15 years ago. There is lots of people getting double spaces to park their car and lots of vendors selling Chinese tools but the amount of vendors with a space filled of old parts is dwindling. This is probably due to a number of factors, more parts get used up as time goes by is probably one, while the Internet is definitely another.

However, my real point was simply that the flea market was going downhill (how bad we could argue about I guess) but the car corral was not and that the AACA should recognize this and not screw it by putting it in a mud field. Anyone that walked the car corral last year will agree with me.

Alsancle, I never even went to the car corral last year because of it's poor location. Herco, the owner of the property, dictates where and how the show is laid out. A club I belong to had their space moved 2 weeks before the show, making club business a big problem. There was no time to notify members. Hopefully this will be the last shift for a long while. Several years ago there was talk of accepting 1 year of cars every 2 years, which would have slowed down the growth of post 70's cars. I do see a resurgence in interest in very early cars, brass era. Now if they would just shut down the stinky sewer plant next to the show field things would be great.

alsancle I see your point now.

From what we've seen many of the older parts are drying up and the year range of parts is "shifting forward in time" so to speak. There are many vendors getting double spots for convenience as well.

We also noticed this trend at Carlisle as well where the primary focus is on 60's and 70's. I'm thinking that this is probably just a natural progression much like having generations move on in families.

I DO agree with you that the car corral deserves better than a mud bog. I for one did not venture over there last year because of the location. This year I'll definitely go look through there (but only AFTER I promise my other half I'm only looking.... )

Whoever mentioned the sewer treatment plant running, I thought it was the porta-johns that made that odor after they had a chance to "ripen" by the end of the week.

Thought I'd pull this back to the top since it is rapidly approaching. Come visit me in the car corral row A spaces 45-50. Look for the big green tent.

So are we going to meet and greet by the racecar entrance to the stadium at noon on Friday?
Here is a link to a map. Maybe someone tech savvy can post it and mark the meet and greet spot for those who don't know...

Here is a full schedule of events..

It does say that the race cars will run at 11am Friday morning.

Anyone else staying at Hershey Lodge?

Yes, This will be our 30TH year staying there!!!!!!!!! Do the math and tell me how many '32 Fords I could have now if I camped another 3 nights in the van. It really is a great place, and close to Fenicci's, I plan on looking at the Swigert cars before the Friday auction. Always wanted to stop in the ParkSide, but quit drinking years ago so what's the point now.
