Dude an inch chop on that car would be a ton of work, let alone 3 1/2.

I was there until about 4:30 and those guys know what they're doing. There was some real talent working on that ride, Mark is going to have an awesome car when they are done. I got to work on it a little, and helped lifting the top off and back on, it was cool.

Hot Rod Drummer can weld! And, he only electrocuted himself twice!

Denise, if you’re still at the shop post some pics of the nose art on The Heap. I did not catch the guys name but he was doing some nice work. Very clean and very cool.

BTW those chocolate chip cookies were delicious.

    Thanks for the update.
You guys look like surgeons at work. Thats a tough chop to do!
Looks like it will give the car some great lines.
Nothing like a bunch a gays surgeons with scalpels in their hands.

Yes, we are starting at 9am again tomorrow. It's almost 10pm here and everyone is just about wiped out. I'm just amazed at the talent that showed up today and worked their ass off. I'm very, very impressed, my hats off to all the guys.

Stay tuned for more updates tomorrow.

Just got home from the Chop

Roadstar, Charlie Chops, Tim Seca, and Stickylifter where hard core all day long and kicked ass, 10 hours when I left and they still working away.

We'll be back tomorrow to help wrap up the chop, and clean up the shop.

  14. End of day 1 (2 if you count what we did Friday night)...

I couldn't possibly tell you how blown away I was at the day's events. The turnout had to be 50 people, which meant that the work went by at lightning speed. If there was something to be done, all you had to do was shout and someone was there to help out. It was eerie. Did you ever see the National Geographic special where the fire ants devour the deer carcas or whatever? It was like that, like a swarm on my car.
It's impossible to name an MVP, but I can give you a few key players: CharlieChops1940 is a bad muther, for one. I could tell right away he was an old pro because he was just walking around the car and making tape lines and conducting us all with the style and ease that only comes from knowing your game top to bottom. And everything he said to do turned out perfect.
Mad, mad props to roadstar who, aside from being one of the coolest guys you could ever meet, knows his shit inside out. He came up with a battle plan right off the bat and had guys crawling all over that car like maggots on a chicken wing.
SecaTim was going nutz fabricating. As soon as he walked in the door he was on fire. Literally, it was like "Hi how you doin, nice ta meetya. Here, gimmie that, how long do you want it cut?" And he just kept on going from there.
Of course, hotrodladycrusr and DIRTYT kept everyting together and maybe we can get a spatula tech post out of them. :)
I met a lot of HAMBers that I'd never met before, and saw some friends as well. There were guys here from London, Ontario (Canada, duh)... Indiana, Ohio, uh, probly guys from down river, too.
The guy that did the striping was Mark Quill (I can't remember his HAMB name...) A talented striper, builder, and all around badd ass. He brought the Green Monster: a cordless porta-band saw! Fukkin awesome.
HotRodDrummer wasn't content chasing wrenches, so he stripped the bumper off the front and started making it a one piece. Sweeeeet.
I know I'm totally glazing over everybody else, but this post of mine is beginning to run on like a Grammy acceptance speech, so I'll drop more names later. I gotta get some sleep.

Here's the car at the end of the night. Mild chop? I don't know about that. The trunk door is flat on the trunk floor, and the door tops aren't even in yet. Stay tuned for more.

Absolutely sick work guys. I have that same car just begging for that treatment. It also needs new floors and rockers so do me a favor and channel that thing too while your there. I only wish you were doing it closer so I could help.

Any updates today? I'm probably not going to make it out due to spending some time with the wife and kid. But I wanna know about the progress.

Yesterday was a blast. Only a couple people picked on me about my VW. I got to cut two 2x4s in half and fetch some jack stands once. I got a sweet Tshirt and a bitchin HAMB calendar (get yours while they're hot!) and was fed well all day. Met some extremely cool people. Any non-HAMB person would never believe the variety of personalities you run into at a HAMB event. All good people. Incredible metal fab skills, pinstriping, teamwork, artistic ability, opinions about music, knowledge about weird obscure car shit, jokes about using chicken wire and plaster to refill the quarter panels, just an all-around great time.

Thanks to Mark for putting the whole thing together. You may be getting a sweet chop out of the deal, but you're giving back to the GMBs way more than you'll receive.

We've had alittle excitment at the shop already this morning. For anyone in the Metro Detroit area you know how extremly windy it is today. Parts of the shop roof have come off. No one's climbing up there to see exactly how much damage but I did snap a couple of photos.

Oh well the work must go on no matter how distracting the pounding is on the roof

There's just a faction of the guys here today than there was yesterday. Seems everyone today has kind paired up helping each other. Lots of explaining today about why this or that is being done a certain way. Definatly a great day to absorb, learn and ask questions from the "greybeards". Even last nite as we were wrapping it up Moose and Chuck took the time to explain how the srinker/stretcher works, going so far and to even showing me certain things on scrap metal. A real learning weekend. Thanks guys!

Moose explained to me that streak you see of discoloration is actually lead from an orginal factory seam and will have to be removed

They were all here working by 9am but with picture taking, moving vechiles out of harms way, cooking lunch, downloading, etc....I got a late start on posting the photos:p I take all the blame. Will head back out to the shop and see if there is an exciting I can snap right now. :D Perhaps Chris, 62Wagon will light something else on fire:eek: :D

The greybreads want me to mention that please do NOT follow their lead. You should be wearing your eye and ear protection.

Chris lit some glass on fire but it was hard to capture with the camera.

I guess there is always next time.
