Well I wish I could have stayed longer and actually Helped some, that front bumper got me all flustered....I'm glad it bolted back on the car....

It's looking good guys, keep it up!! haha

Had a hell of a time with that wind on the way back, the rubber bed liner in the truck wanted to blow away, so I had to put my tool box back there and it threatened rain the whole way...

Tell DirtyTBag I made it home safe, I know he worries :p ;)

    Peace, *****es,

Glad to see everyone as made it home safe and sound. We grilled up some more grub then everyone went back to work. It's almost 7pm and the folks that are left are looking alittle ragid. I'll be here for about another hour, clean up what I can, give one last update then head for home.

Cutting the trunklid off with the roof is a really good idea that I wouldn't have thought of. Keeps the bodylines flowing and will make for some neat swoopy rear quarters.

Was there some background on this car that I missed somewhere? I.E. who owns it? Was anyone getting paid to do this? Looks like a cool project.

Looking great! I love the HAMB chop concept...we used to do something similar around here but it seemed like every time we built someone a nice car he sold it and made a bundle!
    Nice work!

Denise, you have your teams mixed up in the one shot...team Boyd is actually on the left... ;)

    Another update for the thirsty:

For those out of the loop, as mentioned already, the car is Stickylifter's (aka Stinkyfinger). His real name is Marc, and he's a very cool guy. He's built a cool car already (apart from the chop) out of what amounts to a 1-1/2 car garage. I hear he also plays in a band called the Twistin' Tarantulas, and is quite an artist: the t-shirts he gave out this weekend were awesome.

I just got home and caught up on the post. I had things going on this weekend, but somehow managed to sneek away for a couple hours yesterday (got to see the roof get put back on,) and then tonight, I got up there around 5 or so. It was great to see everyone again.

When I left tonight (about 8:50) they were still working on the rear quarters, making the complex filler panels that allow the now much lower than stock trunk lid to flow into the rear quarters. This type of chop (as I learned) actually turns the rear end of the car into a completely different animal than what left the factory. When you open the trunk lid, the trunk floor is now only about 1/2 inch away from the trunk lip opening. The entire roof was actually moved forward about 4 inches as a result of the chop. This required a custom-made rear pan, below the lid itself, that had to be fabbed. To say it came out wonderfully doesn't do the work justice. The car also almost has "fins" now, it looks very 1950's concept-car-ish. I can say that from looking at this car personally, this overall chop is nothing short of impressive. The car's roofline remains uninterrupted, and the new rear-end treatment is much improved over the factory lines. It looks more "swoopy" for lack of a better description, it flows very nicely from front to rear. When Mark (et. all) is done with this chop, a person who isn't framiliar with the lines/rearend of this car won't know the extent to which it has been modified, and to my mind that it the KEY to a kustom. When it looks "right" but you don't know exactly why that is. To say that this chop looks right is an understaement when you see it in person. Marc is one lucky guy.

Although I didn't get to help much (outside of pointing out a few things as a "bystander" while work was progressing), as usual it's a lot of fun just hanging out and observing/learning/sharing. There is certainly no lack of talent within the HAMB, and the GMB's put together a fun weekend as usual. Thanks to Denise for her organizational ablities, I even got my Calendar already! Maybe next time I can lend more of a hand...I'm good at slingin' dough, so Marc, you have my number.

I just got home and cleaned up, we needed one more day to finish and dress all the metal work. I learned a lot, but I'm pooped. I'll be glad to go back to work tomorrow and get some rest.

To the contrary, I LOATH my job, and would LOVE to go back to the shop and finish this chop...8 hours, 10 hours, 14 hours working on a vintage ride would be heaven to me...right now...compared to 10 hours of cubicle hell.

But then again, you put in MANY hours of much needed work while I was attending a wedding and long-distance girfriend needs, so I'm in no position to complain... :) My hat is off to you, brother!!!

As I was leaving they cut the truck lid tack welds so I thought I'd take a few more shots.

    Everybody, thank you so much.
airkooled, thanks for your words. To read them means that my intentions came through. And yeah, I am one LUCKY sunofa*****!! I wanna thank Double Clutch Dave for manning the camera throughout the weekend. I'm going to do a tech post of the chop because I learned a ton of stuff, and hopefully it'll prove interesting to you guys. I gotta go unload the truck, and wash the thick black layer of grime off ( and you wouldn't believe the things that I've been pulling out of my nose...). So here's a couple pics of The Heap as we left Cl***ic Collision tonight. Thanks once again. This is a weekend I will never forget.

Yeah, I..Cough cough...I seem to be developing a second cold to the one I already took off a 1/2 day off last week..., cough, time off, cough, of...cough...um,

Unfortuantely, in my line of work, one day gone equals 2 days of catch-up hell. 8-10 voice mails and about 120 e-mails (no joke) I'd have to catch up on...

    Marc- you the man.

hahahahaha! hey Rick, howyadoin? good to hear from you. I'll give you a tip: not only will Royal Crown give you that nice greazy shine, it works good as a pre-lube when you're putting an engine back together. I swear.

Okay, I really need to get in the shower. Later!
