Count me in for a South Texas HAMB Chop. I wouldn't know exactly what to do, but I'm a fast learner & good at basic "worm" duties!

Just curious, but why did shirts have to be made? I think the concept of car guys getting together to teach and assist another that is less knowledgeable or financially unable to afford a shop to accomplish is a great thing.

Also why has the cost to accomplish keep going up as much as it has (still way cheaper then a shop would ever charge).. Are the supplies just getting more expensive or was it the extra number of shirts there were being made or just a rough number to make sure the owner had the money to provide what was needed??

    Damn....

I was reading this trying to figure out how much beer and bbq to buy to get someone to help me chop mine.

Then someone posted some shit about tshirts.

I buy white ones. A few black. I'll give them away....they are kinda worn but wtf.:D

(joking about the tshirts. I git the jist.)

To be perfectly honest, I think the t shirt thing is kinda gay. I mean, a HAMB shirt or hat is nice if Ryan wanted to offer 'em up for sale to the members here, but one sayng "I helped chop some internet buddy's car" isn't really neccesary, is it?

iam being nice and iam going to hold off on a written beatdown... your response is unproductive and out of line.

run a HAMB chop and you can leave the Gay t-shirts out. how about this - its a geture of gratitude and a trinket to mark the occassion.

sometimes being perfectly honest isnt the best move a person can make.

How is my response unproductive? Maybe you & others like the shirt idea- me personally I don't see them as neccesary. W/ all the concern about $$, cutting out the shirts is an easy way to reduce the cost.

It honestly wasn't meant as a derogatory statement. No one was supposed to be offended- jeebus, this is the HAMB. Saying something is "gay" is common practice around here. If I owe you an apology for hurting your feelings, get over it.

If there is anything going on around here, I will be there with bells on...

Ive decided that I dont want to bring my car out until I am totally happy with the whole damn thing... Its close, my biggest hurdle is Money for the most part. (for some top secret goodies) There are a few changes that Im gonna have to do to the back window/sail panels.... But after that and an even coat of primer and a makeshift interior to get me by I will drive the wheels off it again.... I dont want to try and show off a custom that isnt done enough to be showed off...You know? Thats RatRod Gayness.... Any guy can cut one up, but it takes a real cool guy to put it back together and give it class....

It will be out for summer.....

I might have another car out for summer too if I work hard....

Didn't mean nothin' by it. Just a play on words. I think it's pretty bitchin' that a bunch of guys can just get together over a weekend, drink beer, bullshit AND get something productive done.

    With or without t-shirts;) .

so let me dumb things down for you a bit...

you are gay... now shut the fuck up.

i said my piece and sorry to everyone as well as Ryan for creating drama but seeing tough guys throwing their idiocy around is getting to me.

that i'd pay to see done.

i wanna slice-n-dice ym '54 tudor in the worst fukin way but have no clue where to start, how to hide the rear glass into the deck,,,, the list goes on. only thing i'd like to see is a HC in the midwest

  13. $600? yeah sure. Our shop has 3 full timers and I only restock the plasma cutter consumables once every 3 months at a cost of $98. Cut off wheels, box of 50 for $62. I can believe $600 bucks if 500 of it was beer and food. If you are going to teach and do a favor, do a favor. $600 bucks my ass.

Plan9, if I need to shut the fuck up, then Ryan will let me know- not you. All I said was no shirts, less cost to the HAMB Chop. No one is required to do anything I suggest- I'm just a newbie around here offering my opinion. Plain & fucking simple. And yes, I am gay. I'm still trying to find my ass-less chaps for the gay pride parade. Shit, where did I leave them?

I agree. It would be sad if it was killed because of bickering over T-shirts, or the cost of putting it on.

I'd pay gladly pay $600 to have my 49 Dodge chopped, but I don't know if there are enough people down here that would be into it.

Anyway, hopefully this drama thing will die quickly. It only gets in the way of rodding (which is what I assume we're all here for).

As for myself, I'm gonna try harder to check my attitude at the door from now on. Is it me, or has it really been getting ugly lately?

Trent....you should just stick to smiling at the customers and running their plastic money thru the machine..........you don't have any idea what your talking about.

Quote "I'd gladly pay $600 to have my 49 Dodge chopped, but I don't know if there are enough people down here that would be into it."

That says it all right there! Case closed.........

And the T-shirt issue.....host your own HAMB Chop...and do the T-shirts or not.........I'm still wearing mine from the 1st HAMB Chop party.

  18. Well, now that I got you attention as well as Radshits, cool. Thats was why I said what I said.

True $600 is a good deal to get the basic chop done. I dont fault the young guys that had it done for doing it.

In fact, I APPLAUD both you Jason and Neal and all the others that have been involved in these get togethers.

But, the fact is that bad feelings have been expressed over every one of these deals. If for nothing else than some HAMBer asking WTF happened to ...........chop/gas whatever.

Semi witty one-liners from you Killer dont bother me. Neal, you are the one that has no idea what I do know, I am dis-appointed in your comments. I will go to work tomorrow at the rodshop and deal with real world costs of doing business. Which are far less than $600 in consumables for a half done chop.

If I get this right your talking about the HAMB Gas party I hosted....I've concluded now...... you're talking out your ASS!

Up until this point, I've been pretty reserved about speaking openly on the deal that went down on that weekend.........but, if you want, I can bring it out in the open and embarass a few good people.......But, the people involved...the individuals that matter anyway, made their peace.

You want to play the good will advocate..........fine speak out on something you know a little about....

I have no idea what all was included in the 600-800 dollar price tag.

I do know how much money went into the HAMB gas and am not surprised that the cost can add up.

Food, lots and lots of food. You should expect to feed the guys after all. Lots of guys, dinner on Friday, three squares on Saturday and at least a breakfast on Sunday. That is gonna add up.
    Beer.
    Drinks.
    Shirts.

    Mig wire.
    Gas for mig.
    Filler material
    cutoff wheels, angle grinder.
    cutoff wheels, chop saw.
    Oxy/Acetylene
    grinding wheels, angle grinder.
Whatever material is used to stengthen and reinforce the body.
Whatever the hell Plasma cutters eat.

Then there are any parts purchased from other HAMBers.

All this is conjecture anyway as I believe the figure thrown out there was not a price tag. Just a heads-up as to what to expect to spend.

None of these guys were charged more than the actual cost.

And the cost is the cost, whatever it works out to be.

One thing that would help would be to limit the number of attendees so you aren't feeding and drinking people who aren't working.

We were planning a Mid-West HAMB chop that never happened because our recipient couldn't get landed on what he wanted, I talked to Killer about it and he was very specific as to what to expect and I din't find any of it to be out of line.

So let's all shut the hell up and start planning the next one, whomever gets it can figure in their own little heads how much they are going to throw into it and they can worry about whether or not it is too much.

I'm up for another HAMB gas also.

    Good times!

If I could have found someone to chop my car for $600 bucks I would have torn the front of my pants off trying to get the money out of my pocket fast enough.

  22. Neal, I honestly didnt refer to your HAMBgas in any way shape or form. What I WAS referring to is when HAMBers post a what happened to???????????? whatever chop topic. As in the fact that Zeke never went any farther with the gasser or non of the chops have seen the light of day in final completed form. HANBers just like to know what the current updates are?

I think you and I have a little communication gap, I consider you a pal. Never intended to insinuate anything about you.

Fuck you Trent. You have no idea what HAMBChop meant to me, why I did it, how much time I spent, how happy the kids were when we were done with their cars, how happy the people were who attended.

    Want a fuckin cost breakdown?
    $200 for materials
    $400 for food
    $200 for t-shirts

Clear as mud you stupid shit?

I'm gonna go outside and clear my head a bit and i'll be back to comment on this later. Or not. I really don't give a fuck about this anymore.

  24. Ok, apples to oranges. $200 in materials is more in line. But at $400 for food, you should have been able to have it catered!:D Now I am just fucking with you for the hell of it. ;)

Maybe the big problem with these events lies in the very root of the thing.

The guidelines are that it needs to be a younger guy who doesn't have the means otherwise.

And I completely understand that. The problem is that we need to be sure the recipient has any chance at all of finishing the car after the fact.

Maybe find a guy who has done quite a bit of work already and then go with the chop instead of starting with some meadow muffin.

Perhaps the thing backfires on a very simple level. The recipient maybe has no skills or minimal skills. He shows up, sees all these guys with experience getting after it. Sees the amount of work involved and maybe gest scared, figuring they don't have enough ability to pull the rest off.

So instead of it being a teaching and motivation tool, they are just getting the shit scared out of them?

    Just thinking out loud.

  26. Listen up mountain bike fag/street rod shop bitch! YOU host a lunch for 20-30 people, make sure you include the main course, the sides, sodas, water, beer. THEN buy yourself some cutoff wheels, some gas for the welder along with the wire, some grinding disks, masking tape etc. Oh yeah, then I'll need you to find people with actual SKILLS that are willing to donate thier time, thier sweat and thier skill for such a cause, now you need a place to do it than can accomodate all of the above mentioned people, not to mention the car being chopped. Add Tshirts to mark the occasion and give you something to wear proudly as a reminder of what you did. After that if you think you can still do it better or cheaper, I'll be the first one to kiss your lilly white ass, until then, SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!

  27. Hey lameass, the $600 you're referring to is the TOTAL COST!!! Not just for consumables! Maybe you've got too much baby blue paint on your brain to comprehend the written word?
