When are they again? I lost all my info with a serious hard drive failure. I couldn't figure out how the get the search to work, so please lend a hand to a guy with a feeble memory.

Jim, did you lose all your photos from last years HAMB Drags in the computer crash? The reason I ask is that I sent you either an email or PM quite a while ago asking if I could get a CD of your photos from that day for a special scrapbook project I'm working on. If possible, I'd like to swap CD's with you. If you've lost all your photos then I'd really like to send you my CD of HAMB Drags photos.
No, thank god, I didn't lose my HAMB drag photos. They were on a seperate drive and on a CD. See, something was backed up! I did lose all my email, so tell me again, what resolution did you want? Email me at jmarlett@cox.net and we can work out the details.
I am planning on running my race car for test and tune on this Friday night at Mokan. I will ask Carl if we can camp at the track again this year. The host hotel is listed on the Mokan web site and it is the Ramada Inn on south Rangeline in Joplin.
There is a story in the local paper this morning some may find interesting. Here is a link to the story. http://www.joplinglobe.com/story.php?story_id=100827&c=97 Jim
Wow, Carl is out $50K and still no resolution. That's got to be a hard pill to swallow...and it*****s! I'll bet the developer isn't as concerned about his "peace and tranquility" as he is about increasing the value of his land for a housing development. Jim or John, do you know if there is a MOKAN defense fund I could contribute a few bucks to? I seem to remember Carl talking about the racers had a fund going.
I'll kick in a few bucks for the HAMB relief fund. I think he would appreciate the help. That developer is looking to buy the land cheap...if hew can run him out of business, he can pick it up for a song. I say the Hambers help the cause and make sure that homey don't get his way.
I'll kick in too. This***** is happening everywhere and we need to do what we can to preserve our interests.
That is some real*****! The drag strip was there long before this clown and his cabin. It's just like in Tulsa, we used to have racing at the county fairgrounds, which was out in the middle of nowhere when they started it. Well, people planted houses all the way around the fairgrounds and Tulsa has long since run WAYYYYY past the fairgrounds and gobbled up other little areas. ANYWAY, the people in these neighborhoods started griping about the noise and they shut the races down. I used to live about a half mile from the track and actually kinda enjoyed the noise. It was Saturday night and it drowned out my girlfriend. I say we need to roll out to old boys cabin and have our first annual HAMB blanket party. RASHY
This doesn't have anything to do with his wanting a peaceful cabin. That****hole is a real estate developer and you know he has ulterior motives... Developers are the Devil.
that*****er (bill beall) is responsible for the slow re-development of downtown Springfield. there are a couple other "him's" around Springfield. they epitomized urban sprawl and killed the historic center city Square area, then bought all THAT property for a song. they sat on it with doubled and tripled prices until the new Ice Rink, Baseball Stadium, and Civic Center were built. Now, they are making money hand over fist on the same buildings that they caused business' to go bankrupt in. Springfield is focusing again on the cool part of town whilst all the plywood boxes built all around the edge of town rot away. you would think people would learn. of course all he wants is to develop the dragstrip into a strip mall/mc donalds/wal mart/plywood box development. he IS the devil. sometimes, you just gotta rant, sorry... i live in austin now, do i care? damn straight, and you all should, too. i know it's not OCR or Lions, but dammit!! not many dragstrips left that have been around that long.
If the****hole manages to win I say we all go visit him about 3AM and have a contest to see which one of our cars is loudest.
Any chance of getting some of the HAMBs lurker celebs involved. I'm not one to ask for that sorta thing for myself but saving a HISTORIC LANDMARK racetrack is a righteous cause. We all know how folks pay attention to celebs over well meaning hoodlums. I've thinking about the HISTORIC LANDMARK thing as a way to save Drive ins because they fall victim to developers the same way. Local government does what they can to force out the little guy because they're taking campaign money from the developers. If the property could be marked as a historic landmark then the developer couldn't touch it. The only thing is that the owner couldn't upgrade the track or later sell to developers. I think that there might even be some tax breaks in there for maintaining the landmark??? Just a thought ..
[ QUOTE ] Where are the best places to stay? And are there campgrounds? [/ QUOTE ] Springfield, just a little ways south. No, but last year you were permitted to stay at the track.
anyone who camped at the track last year - What are the facilities like? ... just a John? - no showers?
Ummm...Springfield is nearly two hours from the track. Joplin is where you should stay...NOT Pittsburgh.
Yeah, we stayed in Joplin last year, it's pretty close to the track. As for the "facilities"... They have rest rooms, kind of a trough type situation, for the men anyways, didn't make it to the ladies room. Let's just call it "rustic". As for a shower, I didn't see one but I wasn't looking for one either. I think they allowed the camping as a convenience more than something they are really geared up for. RASHY
What we could do, is all chip in and get a (cheap) room, or two, just for shower facilities... those staying at the track. I'm hoping to have a teardrop by then, and if it's as hot as last year, I'll probably be cooked before the pig... Otherwise if someone wanted to open up THEIR room for showers, we could pitch the guy a few bucks back on the room. We could bring a sprinkler and a garden hose... or, maybe someone has a Slip-N-Slide... No... two of 'em... We can set 'em up in the track and have Slip-N-Slide drags. Good clean fun for everyone. Otherwise, there's always the bleach-box to roll around in. JOE
I'm planning to attend the Drags but I think that our comments should be submitted to the Newspaper regarding the nuisance article! We must stress that Sanctioned racing is safer and less costly than illegal street racing. Mr Beale obviously has some political pull that seems to border on "Bribes" (just speculation!) and has alterior motives for his actions.(Maybe he's promising the Judge his own little lodge for a judgement!) In Wisconsin we lost a racetrack that has been in Hales Corners for about 50 years to a bunch of developers and is forcing auto enthusiasts farther away! And many "Ma and Pa businesses that thrived on the revenue generated from the track will disappear as a result of this judgement! So let's "Pitch-in and start******en" to the right sources!! Mark
Camping is fine, you just have to drink Zors 'shine and the heat doesnt affect you This year the food will be set up under the tree that SamIyam bogarted last year. We hope to have a few more campers. Just be prepared for an outhouse and no showers. Watching the locals run Friday night was a blast. I would recomendo bringing an EZ Up if you have one
