The HAMB dragster team of Rand Man and Recycler have a powerplant. I still need an oil pump and intake. Rand Man and son are in their lab working on a ch***is and pulling a spare ******. Now its YOUR turn. Lets see those HAMB dragster progress pics, even if its just a driveway full of parts. Brad
I decided to base my ch***is on what I had on hand. This a Model A frame that had been turned into a trailer. In the next few weeks I'll turn this pile of **** and tubing into something respectable.
Well, yes.... I have something brewing...No pics yet but I am building away trying to get her done for the drags. I might twist another Eavilboydcoupe's arm to do something???? I will get some photos in soon. Have fun building and keep us posted on your progress. Sandman Barons So.Texas
I don't remember you saying you were building one? Very cool! I really need to put these pain pills away maybe? I know your gonna load that right? So why the pretty paint? Nitro's just gonna melt it. That exhaust is perfect though for tossing it at our eyes.
Injected A, The thought has crossed my mindBUT! If I am gonna burn to death in a dragster its not gonna be in a 70 mph "vintage" car. Know what I mean???I don't wanna blow this thing up. Damn parts are expensive and it takes up alot less space when its put together! I'll get enough(never) nitro this summer. I guess I forgot to mention the hamb dragster the last time we talked. You always bring up the ***** goddess nitro and my head gets all funny. Glad to see some more guys buidling cars for MOKAN. PLEASE post any progress and I will do the same. Brad
We got that trans pulled and have been trying to split the wishbones. I've got the ch***is planned out and have started cutting tubing. Looks like we'll have a roller in the next couple weeks.
Yeah, Kyle's running Oddysey wheels on that Standard. They're pretty tough, but I think I'll use the 16" early Ford wires not shown in the photo.
We've got a lot done in the last few days. The model A frame had been made into a trailer, so we had to straighten it out.
I extended the rails out to about 120 inches. I took a bunch of photos but they came out worhless. I'll post more tomorrow we'll be rolling soon.
Ya fiddy four, I'm gonna run a teapot. Mainly because I have a new one sitting around and I'll get a lot of "that won't work" comments.LOL I am gonna try it. Looking good Rand man! I ordered the oil pump yesterday. We're making progress. Brad
I like teapots. Granted one will never take the place of a well thought out Hillborn unit but they are what they are. I had one on a '57 Ford and another on a '56. The '56 needed a little help but once we got it sorted out it didn't give us any problems. I understand that the Ravin and KC****o have teamed up and are building a barn burner themselves. Maybe one of them a has a pic or two of their s**** pile.
We extended the frame with 1 1/2" by 3" tube. The Model A frame was 4" deep in the middle where it had been abused. I decided to add an angled strip of tubing along the bottom. This will look better and add a lot of strength.
Recycler did some of his ace machine work on this axle. This is a sneak peek of the "tractor" style front suspension I've designed.
My son Kyle, welded a bushing into the center hole. The axle will pivot on a 3/4" (grade 8) bolt. Are we the only team building a HAMB'ster?
Can anyone tell me how to remove the brake drums from these hubs. They seem to stuck on there pretty good. I tried to press them off but the drums were bending. What vintage are these wheels (34?)? They are 16" by 5" with 5 by 5 1/2" bolt pattern.
It's more or less a solid front suspension for drag racing only. The axle pivots in the middle like a tractor or lawn mower. The old Chevy valve springs give it about one inch of deflection, side-to-side. I wanted a little movement to hande the less than smooth track. I had palnned to use some rubber bump stops, but my team-mate (Recycler) said "why not use valve springs". I think the movement will allow the ch***is to flex and plant the rear tires. The 7.10-15 Sears Allstate wide whites we have now, have about a five inch contact patch, so she needs all the help she can get.
Tom, You are correct. They are 4". I thought a '35 had the "wide five" pattern. Thanks for responding guys. I was beginning to think this post was locked.
Not hardly Rand Man. There's a couple going together here in T-Town that I know of. My buddy Ted McCord came by the other day and said he wanted to use one of my WWII aircraft seats and a drilled axle for his rail. He got a flathead and ****** donated to the cause by another buddy. The gut that donated it asked him how many carbs he wanted on it! My Rolling Bones coupe will be done by then, so I'm definitely going to be there, although the aircraft interior won't be finished yet. Bob Hindman and team in Tulsa are putting another one together, but I haven't seen it yet. I'll post pics tomorrow of Ted's rail. Larry.
Rand man, Do you have your will made up? Your not mowing the gr*** out there on the track.Either you've got big br*** balls or your dumb as a post. I would not trust that to work in my humble opinion. If you even bump the wall or drift into another car it will likely come apart. Anybody else out there thinking this is nuts. I wouldn't trust my life on a single grade 8 bolt. Show me a single picture of a race car that went over 100mph with that type of frontend arrangement and I'll shut up. Also, What are you gonna use for wishbones?Good Luck!
Larry, I e-mailed some pictures to you of the Bob Hindman and team's hambster project. I will send more to you as I take them. I don't know how to post them myself or I would. Mike
