  1. I read something a while back saying lots of these were removed without permission:) “back in the day” but not sure what time frame they were referring to

My semi-traditional setup on my 53 Belair. Old Fenner-Stone lift gate pump with a modern five dump manifold, wired up for just front and back, running on 24 volts. Super simple and almost maintenance free(I just keep the batteries on a trickle charger, when the car is parked). I run shocks all the way around with factory spring rate coils all around, so it rides just as smooth as it did stock(probably better actually). IMG_2011.JPG

I read an article on hydraulics on Lowriders more years ago than I can count and it said that in some circles it was common to jack the hydraulic pump off a lift gate of a truck. It was more of a thing of you used what you could scavange for a lot of guys.

As far as aircraft hydraulics, back in the 50's and 60's military surplus stores were full of aircraft parts for then obsolete planes. You could probably hit some of the surplus stores in SoCal and find the hydraulic pumps not far from the engines that ended up in unlimited hydro planes. In the 70's and 80's My neighbor across the road in Zillah Wa had a surplus store and had a yard full of old military trucks and cars plus he had apple bins full of various parts and pieces and a ton of stuff inside the building. His stash was small compared to a number of them.

TW. I actually went to a local estate sale and found a late 40's surplus catalog and I first looked up hydraulic and there they were. The guy at the estate sale told me his father was the illustrator of all the art.
I'll have to get pic of it. I was going to send it off to 46-64 know that he would appreciate and archive it.

the parts existed. It was just a matter of the right combinations and perfecting a system. I saw a video will Bill Hines saying he first tried screw jack's as well.
    Enjoy

Top quality stuff, @abe lugo !!!
I remember wandering the Surplus isles as a kid. From that perspective it was magical, something wildly interesting and unique in each bin, with rows and rows of them!
