Seems that a bunch of us have builds either in the planning stages or well on there way and no real title to speak of. Not because we are looking to buck the system, but to take these collected/neglected parts and get them back on the road in all of their glory. With literally millions of early ford cars that have been produced and tons of them been scrapped the last 80 years, these things are fading away. With parts still available alot of cars (various pieces and parts collected, restored and brought together in the harmony we call a hotrod) can see the road again. We are just looking to get these cars rolling down the boulevards and freeways once again, not for any other reason the DMV of government thinks. I hear "registration services" are a good way to go. Here in Ohio, I have never heard of them. Sounds like a great idea, but need some schooling as to where to locate one or how to go about it. Are they legit or just another behind doors service? Help me get my 27t back on the road, we can't buy and sell titles on here anymore and i guess its not the best way to do it anyway, so help a fellow HAMBer and other HAMBers how to get our revivals of the past on the road after we have rescued them from fields and barns where people have let them rot. I am building a 27t modified in Ohio and would appreciate and help to get her on the road legally. Help...HAMB brothers.
i have been interested in this as well, i bought a 30 model a in CA with no paper work I just want her on the road as well
I have heard of people using brodway title but I think that they can't work in the state of calif any more. I robbed this from a thread from yesterday. maybe it will help you out. Well it won't help you out in Ohio. Maybe Broadway title can help you out though. I usually just do a google search and they pop up. Like I said I haven't used them yet but I will probably try in the next mont or so, I have a title that kansas screwed up real bad.
Ohio is not that hard. You don't need any registration services or anything. Just tell them you lost the title. Don't tell them you bought it recently, don't tell them it's from out of state, just say "I have this old car and in the years we've had it the title's been misplaced". They'll inspect the car for the VIN on it, check the numbers, and give you a new one. I literally discussed this via email with Ohio BMV myself when I sold a guy in Ohio a car and wanted to be sure he could get it registered there. As with all DMVs, never offer any more information than they ask you. You've never heard of "registration services" in Ohio because there likely is no such thing - virtually every state has it's own rules for putting cars on the road. Some states don't even use titles for cars this old. What goes on in California will only bear a minor resemblance to what goes on in Ohio.
I've used one in Alabama several times, never had a problem. Sent a Bill of Sale and VIN and all was good. Of course, it's been about 2 years since then.
if i lived in a state that had titles for older cars i wouldnt spend the first dollar until i had the title in my hand.in alabama we dont need no stinkin title!thank god for that. alot of my cars came from fields and yards.but they are starting to change up some things down here so we will see whats up when i sell one.
All the "registration services" do is make up a fake title. You may as well buy a "historical document" off of a guy at a swap meet or on a forum that allows the sale of them. In Wisconsin you can bond a title, but it is pretty expensive and time consuming.
Registering a untitled car in cal is very easy. I posted the info yesterday but the thread was deleted ? You need a frame with a readable vin # #1 go to the DMV purchase a 1 day permit #2 take the car to the DMV and get in line for a vin verification #3 go inside and get in line, when you get up to the counter ask for a statement of facts, fill it out with a low value. hand back the statement of facts, the vin verification, and proof of insurance, pay the fees, you will get your plates and your title will come in the mail. Trucks will need a weight slip from a certified scale. Car must look compleate, but does not need to run. A title service will do the same thing but will come to you to verify the vin. A vin service does not make fake titles as some one stated above.
