Well this is starting to sound like a ******* in the wind contest! By all means this was never my intentions nor do I think it was the Intentions of others stating their feelings. It was just an attempt to try and Include a Merc into the show that alot of us grew up with. To many this was the car that made us fall in love with Mercs and Kustoms "Personally Speaking" I myself had all the centerfolds and Posters of the Chalie Lopez Merc hanging in my room when I was about 15 years old. The Charlie Lopez Merc is more than just a car to many people in So Cal it is like the Hirohata merc of our Generation. I just recently bought the car thats why I was trying to include it in the show it has been MIA for about 20 years and was just Discovered in a Barn in Kentucky and I thought this would be a great place to debut the car after all these years so i am Sorry if I have offended anybody by all of this I just really felt the car needed to be indoors with the rest of the historic Mercs. Axle I understand what full means I was just hoping you could make room for it but I understand and ill just let it go here! because i really dont like the direction this whole thing has taken and am starting to feel that maybe it just wasnt meant to be so with that said I just wanted to say Thanks! for considering it and Sorry for the Inconvinence and Good Luck! with the Show im sure it will be a true Historic Weekend "Great Job Guys!"

    Sincerely
    Conrad Garcia

Conrad, Please consider bringing the car - even if it must end up outside due to the event being full already. This gathering of customs is going to be one of the best ever (really, when was the last time you saw this many historic customs all together at once?) and even if your car - as well as many other great Mercs - end up outside, they will still be part of the event and enjoyed by all the hard-core custom guys who are coming out of the woodwork to come & see this historic event.
Perhaps, they can reserve a "place of honor" right next to the entrance into the building?
At any rate, it sounds like many would like to see it.

I agree with Cleatus, you should come no matter where you park it. It really is an historic Merc and should be there. You might get some volunteers to offer a popup for it.

I didn't mean to say that certain cars shouldn't be in the show, I was just saying that Axel is doing the best he can, so give him a little slack. "Captain-Save-an Axel" LMAO

I would think a car with as much history as this one could replace a recently build car that has no history.
(just my opinion we all know what that's worth)
its your show axle, and full is full, and its very short notice to ask for this car to be included but, this car was only recently found.
I hope Conrad takes it anyway, it will be great to see it a**** all the other historic customs of the past.

thanks for all the hard work it must have been to pull off this type of gatthering, its going to be rad!

What the hell is going on. Ten years ago my wife and I came up with the idea for the merc birthday at the Sacramento Autorama (1999). Last year (2008) during the autorama we proposed to John Buck about doing a 60th aniversary in 2009. John Buck said go for it and my wife and I started that night talking to people, one of which was Axle and his wife. We were also getting together some of the mercs that were there. I heard nothing more from the promoters after repeated phone calls and e-mails but kept working on it to keep the dream alive. One day I heard Axle had the ball and was running with it.(hard). He has made this happen. Some cars can not make it in because of the limited space in the show. Mine is one of those cars. I just got home from the hospital today from anaphylactic shock from taking the wrong medication. My heart stopped for 7 minutes. After some hard work, shots to the heart, and being shocked, I was brought back to this world. I would love to see all the mercs there, but if you can't be indoors, please bring them to the outdoor show of mercs. Would you please bring the Lopez merc. I have loved that merc since the first time I seen it. Anyway quit bickering about this and lets put on a great show of mercs both inside and outside as one show we will alway remember. LETS JUST BE PROUD OF ALL THESE GREAT PIECES OF ART WORK NO MATTER WHERE WE ARE PARKED. If you do come to the show, look me up at the West Coast Kustoms booth and say Hi. For the cars are there for all of us to get together. So until next month " lets work together as a family". Chip West Coast Kustoms.

I've been thinking a lot about this since my last post . I think it would be a great idea for someone to bring a pop up canopy and park the Lopez Merc right at the entrance. It will be outdoors of course, but you can bring a table and all of the old photo's and magazine articles that the car was in . Whattaya say?

Looks like the Charlie Lopez Merc will have a special spot right outside the main entrance of the Merc display. Bring all the memorabilia you have ;)

    Cool... thanks Axle, and Conrad.

Now I will see the car that has had a huge impact on me when I was a kid...

When I was a kid living in the Netherlands I had no way to get a AMT 49 Mercury kit... so I used a 1/16 scale Volvo Amazon to built my version of the Lopez Merc... gullwing doors and I even had my mother do a "****on tuft" red velvet interior with working swivel seats....

Axle, this whole thing is totally awesome. From half a country away it is easy to see you have gone above and beyond on this thing. I can hardly wait to get there to see the fruits of your labor!

  17. Just for the record, Ken Stuart is claiming this car was chopped in 1959. Not quite this high tech beauty was sliced in the eighties.Dont get me wrong there is nothing wrong with that, but you cant claim anywhere in the 50's if you were cut in the eighties. How do I know you ask ???? A VERY RELIABLE SOURCE. I Just wanted to set the record straight thats all.

You guys did a great job on getting that 40 Merc done in time for the Merc Gathering... I cant wait to walk around it. It sure looks very nice.

Rodshows has a new and updated website, and all the information about this event including photos of all the Custom Mercs that will be attending this event can be found there.

Just to be clear, I didn't have any part in the 40 Merc, other than taking some pictures. I wish I had that much talent. I met the owner Tom yesterday, and he did a fantastic job of restoring the car, and made some subtle mod's that will make you think "hmmm, has anything been done to **X?" Paul did a beautiful job on the top.

Can't wait to see the show.

The closest Id say was the early Mid Century Merc Club meets from the 80s or the Merc Deuce Reunions.

Thanks 00MACK,as usual you're a goldmine of kustom knowledge...i'm inclined to think this 2009 Merc gatherings will be morer interesting cause the real interest nowadays on traditional Mercs worldwide...i doubt the 80's were as much tasteful as today looks,my 2 cents...
