It was built by Bill Hines for Jerry Yacght in Detroit back in the 50s.

Yea, I recall that too. Something about the lettering font wasn't right, or the wrong size.

Looks like it. Hot rods and Hobbies is the shop right? I have some shot from their open house last year.
I dig that engine bay and thats a cool hood hinge treatment.

The one pictured was sold out of H.B, Ca , on Ebay about a year ago . A real nice original 50 convert could easily be bought for less cash then it sold for. I can see the script doesn't match other period pictures , but they were hand done by who knows how many different people. For the cash that was paid ,and condition it was in , I hope who ever bought it did their research . There were dozens of bids . Maybe someone knows the seller , or the new owner , or can run the plate number. There has to be some nice examples in museums or private collections . There are period pictures of four door , convertible , and coupe pace cars . As well as test cars and Panamerica race car Mercs . It would be cool to see one at the show .

black with no chrome, all nickel plated... the owner wants to put ghost flames on it. he's coming by this week. i hope he can be talked out if it. flames would **** it up. a lot of work and hidden details. i think the flames will take way from it. oh well not my car but some serious $$ into it.

as of last week drivetrain, body, have been painted. all the trim back from being plated at Vern's. all handmade trim pieces.

I agree. Ghost flames is too "streetrod"ish...That car should be really shiney! I looked at that car when it was at the GNRS and was impressed with the metalwork. Not a big fan of chopped/Streetrod Mercs. Mixing two different styles together just doesn't work. He should pick one or the other. Sometimes customers are their own worst enemy.

I had another suggestion that I didn't see in the thread. How about WCK member Dale Hollenbeck's Merc??? Not sure of it's whereabouts since his p***ing. I ***ume the family still has it. As a 17 year old at Paso in 89, I still to this day, always loved his Merc. I will never forget him in his pink shirt and propeller hat wandering the grounds. He was a good guy to some youngster in his primered Ford... I even remember it getting hit by the same deer twice.
