i remember a mention of the hamb in one of the first two hotrod deluxe. i lurked from time to time but didn't join until after attending the first hunnert car pileup where i met some of you mugs for the first time. sort of wish i had joined a bit sooner and gotten a 3 digit member number.
Thats the one! Thanks Ol 55 back in the day there were a lot of builds going on. where are they now? Germ is kind of like a modern betnik in my mind. those posts were entertaining to the subconscious. FRITZ
Kudos to Ryan and the other original gang that have kept this flame going. This is a great Hot Rod website. I've made more friends here with the same affliction in a very short time. Local and around the world. The HAMB is like quicksand. It just ****s you in deeper. I accidentally found the J.J. a few times way back. I was just surfing hot rod stuff. "What the hell is this" the first few times. I'm a car guy but also an artist. That was my first p***ion. I saw a Norwell tee shirt at WOWheels In St Paul in Jan 2009. The guy was hanging at Tuck's booth. Always a big fan of Tucks wares. Asked where he got the shirt. "Back to the 50's" He said. I did a search for Norwell and his links led me here. Got my *** roasted quite a bit up front. (what control freaks? ) I was an entusiastic "overposter" at first. Caught plenty of **** for that. I've joined "Over Posters Anonimous". Lurk more now and post less. Love this site and value the friends and people here a great deal.
I registered in 97 or 98...and just lurked.... rejoined in 03(different locale and different ip provider....) time flies by.....
I remember getting mad at people for posting large pics cause I was on dial-up. Even the school's lab computers took a sammich and a half to load some of the pages. There was a rebellious, progressive underground tone to the site back then. It was exciting... now it's overload. Good and better, but overload... and I still miss Officer Spellcheck..
If I remember right, Ryan would ask us to resize pics. Didn't the site crash because too much bandwidth was used? I still don't know how to resize a pic...
I just joined. Wanted to see what the fuss was all about. At first I didn't sign up, just read posts. Someone said something about a car so I signed up to leave "just one comment". Well, I'm still here and still love it. At first I thought it was a small traditional movement. Boy was I wrong.
I had "heard" or read about the Hamb way before I had registered, I just didn't have a computer until '04. I'm not too crazy about "new" technology
I was lurking in 2000.. then I joined under a different name and got destroyed by Bruiser I went back and forth for a few days...Asking him if this was the House that Bruiser built. I said screw the HAMB!!! then it was like crack I couldn't stay away...I registered a different name "EvilCanEvil" and made sure to follow the newbie "Rules".. Then in 2002 I got deleted for some weird reason and had to start over,,, After meeting Bruiser ...(never told him I was the newbie giving him ****) found out he was a great guy and a rather Large guy that could defiantly kick my ***... The HAMB has been a launching pad for Mad Fabricators and Ryan has always supported me and for that I owe him every thing.... The HAMB is now bigger than the mags and is the leading the pack for Hot Rod media... look at how Rod and Custom adopted the HAMB..every car on the cover was on the HAMB first.... Amazing!!! I found my first e-mail to Ryan- Inviting him to the 'upcoming' Billet Proof '99 show (ahh... the memories): The Jalopy Journal wrote: Jay, send more info bro...sounds cool... Its a lo-tech lo- buck back yard built rod and kustom show I think you would dig. It may even make a good article for your site. Let me know if you want more details... Thanks, Jay
"There was a rebellious, progressive underground tone to the site back then. It was exciting... now it's overload. Good and better, but overload..." Im with ya!
Man thats what I remember when I found it. In computer cl*** in college in Springfield, MO. Man the good old Days!!! Didn't sign up forever.
ive said this in other threads, but if youve been here for a lil while, think of all the friends you have made, and lifelong friends at that!!! all because of the hamb~! i found out about sooo many trad shows via the hamb, started our own show because of the hamb, and the list gos on and on!!heck, out of 50 calls i get in a normal week, 75% or better are friends ive met here!!! i cant imagine where i would be in life without this message board!!! im sure ryan knows, but YOU have changed 1000's of lives for the better because of this!! and for that I THANK YOU BRO!!!!!! VIVA LA HAMB!!!! todd
I've certainly made some decent moves here and there, but I've screwed up just as many times. The members make this place what it is. All I did was provide a roof.
I heard about this site through my Brother back in '05 when he owned his Surf Kart. He wouldn't sell it to me (***hole!) so I could join the "Cool Kids" with HAMB friendly cars,so I just lurked. With the wealth of knowledge on here,I finally jumped in and I'm glad I did! Here's the car my Brother (Still an ***hole!) had and I'd like to know if it's still in the Bay Area...
I think that guy was EVERYBODY's pal... Oh, and I'm sure he's at least half dead by anybody's standard....
nah, only thing youve done wrong was not make me a MOD!!!! you know, to keep out the drunks!!! really though, thanks for da roof!
1997 I gave in and started a message board. I ***led it "The Hokey *** Message Board" as a joke... "Cuz there is no way this thing is viable medium." Ryan, Uhh,I think with all the knowledge, humor and humane concern(choke) that most of the members have for hot rods and one another,it is the pinnacle of the Hot Rod medium? And you even help the "print guys" out! Now,that's cl***! Hell, the rent here is real reasonable too?
Both Jerry and I have a certain sticker that Ryan hates and no I will not post a pic of it. Jerry and I were just talking about who was first in AZ and we think we narrowed it down too Elpalcko, Jerry or me. All I know is this place has become another valuable tool in the tool box. Thanks Ryan.
If you put your cursor over your (or anyones) HAMB name, then look to the lower left of your screen you can see the members HAMB number........................
