wow, i think i originally joined in 2000, when i moved to Martinez, Ca. and bought my '55 Buick. yeah, so nine years ago. Same year I met Sam Strube, got my white knuckle ride in the Roach Rod, ripping around Livermore......Germ used to be a regular......the Hamb Chat came about a year or so later and provided many VERY interesting late night "conversations"- I remember we used to make up sarcastic lyrics to Rockabilly songs and write stories where everyone would chime in and ad their bit.....hilarious......let's see, what else.......Billetproof had their show in Livermore at the Rodeo grounds and some poor suburbanites got their pools filled with dirt......Kirk! still had his Mercury and nasty little Hemi powered roadster being built in his garage.......Rad**** (Neal) had just finished the shop-built Carson top on his chopped and lowered custom truck out in New Mexico.....man, all sorts of neat things goin' on...... I must not fail to mention that i found a roommate on the Hamb after my divorce, a job on the Hamb after i resigned from mine during the said divorce, and countless friends that will always be friends and have an extended hand and open home policy with me for life. I've met so many folks on here, made cross country hamb relays for folks on here all arranged and carried out with hamb members whom i'd never met before....... I may ***** and complain here and there, but the fact is that I am very grateful for this place. I'm thankful to the many people on this board, to Ryan for keeping me around through all of my life's ups and downs over the last 9 years. You all know who you are. Crazy that all of this happened 'cause a guy from Kansas City decided to build a treehouse type club for all us automotive types- us kids who grew up in the garage, not at some daycare facility watching Picture Pages with Bill Cosby..... The magic of the Hamb has nothing to do with cars. It's all about the people on here and the lives it has changed. all for the better- Ryan, relish this rare soft moment from me to you....xoxo Farmer
Yeah, I used to hang out at the RRT. Not a bad bunch of guys but the HAMB drew me in as more folks were living and building cars like I wanted to instead of the more street rod flavor of the RRT. I registered and tried to slide the odd post in here and there w/o getting reamed like newbies used to. I did a LOT of lurking. With guys like Mud, Germ, Sailer etc. you had to have some tough skin. I didn't re-register right away when the forum was rebuilt the spring of 2001. This place truely has become my hot rod home. While Ryan say's it the members, and he's right about that to a point, having this place to come has been due to him. Kudo's Ryan!
Lots of great ideas start SMALL. Look at ya NOW! Glad the HAMB is here, howEVER it happened. THANKS Ryan & ALL the gang !!!
Funny story. I got back into hot rodding around 2001 when life permitted. I remember searching the web for traditional hot rods and I came across this site. I remeber seeing a picture of a bunch of white guy greasers leaning over the hood of a hot rod. I looked at the name of the site and this is what I thought I read: "****** *** MESSAGE BOARD" I thought to myself, damn, these hoodlums are asking for trouble. It wasn't until a year or so later I discovered my mistake. It still took some courage to join. haha
The HAMB has enriched my life so much and in so many ways, I'm so glad that I got a computer and learned how to use it to access this place. I got the "heads-up" from references that I kept seeing in Traditional Rod and Kulture Illustrated.
The HAMB is the reason i got a computer! ........... and the fact my girlfriend stopped letting me use hers to check out the HAMB when i came over to her place! LOL Im member 1273 ... hell LOL
I had to join. I got so sick of this damn site dominating the internet and I couldn't get any hot rod information from any other source. I'd try Googling a part or a technical problem and without fail all the top hits were HAMB references. I got really pissed off for a while. Then I decided to have a look at what it was all about. Geez I was a dumb schmuk pre-HAMB. thanks Ryan Pete
