I would like to take this opportunity to thank a few on here who have inspired me to make a change in my career. Roothawg got me thinking when he was going for that new job. That inspired me to start looking at where I was and what I was doing about it.... Monday this week I handed in my resignation. Nearly 10 years of selling Flow Control Equipment, high stress and bloody mindedness. I decided to take control of my life, spend more time with my family and take time out to smell the flowers. I don't plan to return to the work force until April next year! I am taking summer off.... Plenty of home renovations to do and property maintenance on our 8 acres plus a bit of a tidy up on the cars and a reorganisation in the garage. February my wife, son and I head south in the Fairlane for a 3 week trip of the south island with other petrolheads. I am looking forward to winding down and looking at life with a different perspective and hopefully with less stress and headaches. It's also about realising my potential, no more false hopes from management and not staring at a glass ceiling any more! Possibilities abound and opportunities will be presented!

Harrison, I have a wee stash of cash and after DEC. 12th a lot of spare time. I have also become rather disillusioned with some of the work that is done by so-called tradesmen. Time was always a huge factor for me. I figured by taking time out, doing as much of the work myself with a little guidance here and there (much like my cars) and the quality of being able to plan and think and project manage what I do, I would have to come out on top. Also saving a bit of money at the same time. The good part is, my wife is fully supportive and I have her to thank for that. My son (David aged 7)is right into BMX racing as well, so that has given me the opportunity to meet new people and bikes also rock in my books plus spend more time with him and be a full time Dad for a cuppla months. It is a refreshing refocus on life and I can't wait to plan the months ahead. I have something in the pipeline and I hope to bring that to fruition next year. Our place is always open to rodders and HAMB members to drop in and say hi. The coffee is free and so is the fresh country air. After all, today is the first day of the rest of your life! Oh, nearly forgot, the HAMB chat is also a great vessel for topical conversation. Come join the nite mass if you are free.
Walked away from a 22 year career at 48 years of age to work for myself. Best damned decision I ever made. Now we are working on building a business that will get my awsome supportive wife out of her job and working with me. I owe her for standing by my decision to take the leap. So, Good For You!

Cruisin'....Go to Western Springs Speedway and watch the sprint cars race. Afterwards go find Ossie Sokol's wife, Lisa, and tell her SJFast says "Hello" !
Good on ya, wish I could see a bit more future at the moment then the next paypacket paying this months bills.... couple of months off should serve you well. If you run outa things to do at home I got a big list at my place Out your way tonight but on a bit of an express mission otherwise I would drop in.
Hey SJ, I haven't been to the speedway for years. Perhaps a few HAMBers should get together and have a nite out there this summer?? Food for thought... If we make it, I will see if I can find Ossie Sokol and his wife, Lisa. Ya never know! Thanx again for the great words.
Good to hear you made the break. I know that selling the shop and deciding to give ourselves some time out has been the best thing Val and I have done for ages. Now that you are going to be home during the day we will have to make a point of calling in for some of that free coffee when we are on our way to Smogville (Auckland) The idea about Western Springs sounds good to me. Count us in. Best of luck mate. Give me a call sometime on 07 8234100
