Customs HAMB Merc Club! who's in?????

I remember that post where we talked about the M/C. How did the master cylinder conversion job go?

I've seen the pics with what look like giant snow tires in the back. The Merc looks good (and level) with the new meats.

In this photo, the car looks just like a 2 door to me. I think it is because whoever chopped it made the back window shorter looking. Most 4 doors have side windows that look the same length.

 

The car still has the stock master cylinder on it, actually. The problem was two blown wheel cylinders on the front (along with worn out shoes that were soaked with fluid!). The local NAPA store had the wheel cylinders in stock and the hardware available as seperate pieces (no kit) and Murray's had the new front brake shoes. Once the new parts were installed, the system bled and all four brakes adjusted, the car stopped great!

Ha Ha! The car had GIGANTIC wide whites on it that had been on it since the early 80s, if not longer! They were SO dry-rotted it looked like they'd explode at any second, so I took them off as quickly as I could! I had the wheels powder-coated gloss black locally and DIRTYT donated a set of like-new Good-Year Double Eagle radials to the cause, which is what's on the car now.

(The ancient "may blow" wide whites ended up on Danimal's son's truck for now...he 'garbage picked' them out of the bed of an old hooptie truck I sold Von Rigg Fink!!).

The chop does make the car look like a two door, except for the door lines, of course! The shaved door handles (why he didn't shave the locks too is still a mystery?!). The dude I picked this car up from (Pat) also has a 32 Ford 5-window coupe that he chopped and filled. He has a killer eye for getting proportions right with that sort of thing!

After re-wiring the car from bumper to bumper, replacing all the fuel lines, fuel pump and hoses, rebuilding the carb, installing a new Carter mechanical pump, an HEI distributor and GM internally regulated alternator in the SBF engine, a new custom 4-core radiator, new mechanical fan, the tires, new brakes, etc...the car was deemed reliable and roadworthy. I drove it from Detroit to Tulsa with no real problems (it spit out a little power steering fluid in Indiana, but no big deal!) and it's a dynamite highway cruiser! The motor is real tired, though, and the trans leaks a bit, and the steering box needs attention, but it's well on it's way to being a really great car! CathyH will take it the rest of the way as time and money allows, with the help of her cool and eager nephew, Matt! I hear he's already added a new water pump, an electric fan and sorted some other stuff out a bit more! Look for it at the SK-500 in May!!

 

I had some pic's of it before I knew it was his car. I haven't been able to get ahold of him,so,NO I don't have any new pic's. I'll hunt him down and get you some...

 

Anyone have any other views(side, rear) of this one? I have seen a few pics of it, but always from the front.

Kool I already know of three Mercs that is going to be there that hadn't made
the trip before..... Since it is the '49 Birthday this year, we are working on
some kool stuff for the Merc owners this year. I kan't wait!!

That would be awesome! You can take pic's and post them on here...If you do,try to post the HAMB name with the cars. Or the owners pic with their cars.

Dewey is like 21 hours from me in NJ. Hmmm......

 

Since I got Bad Bobs approval then we will make it official. HAMB Merc meet and
greet will be at the Stray Kat 500, May 1, 2 and 3, 2009. I'm working on a kool
plaque / Shirt idea that we will be giving out to all of the Merc owners that participate
with the greet thing. If I have left overs I'll post them on the HAMB...

I'll take some pictues and that way the guys that kan't make the trip will still have
a part of what is going on.

I'm hoping to make the Sacramento thing, too, but will have to fly in. I mentioned it to my wife the other night and she said if I found the tickets, she's go. I'd call that "permission," wouldn't you? Of course, the last time she said something similar, I drove to Florida 3 days later and brought me home a Merc! She should choose her words more carefully!

it had a "Connie Kit" on it when I bought it.

 

i remember that car! fathack drove it to some cruise nights and over my house this past summer. good starting point. it will make a good custom one day. from what i saw, its on its way.
