"Do you still need parts? I still have them for sale in good condition.
If you are still interested in purchase do let me know.

He's one of the ones that emailed me. The other tip off was when searched for the address on google maps I got a row house, not a business.

    douchbags

  4. I have a guy right now from the UK who anwsered my add where I was looking for a 33/34 Ford roadster body.

He only wants 1800.00 dollars for it. I think its a deal! I'm going to send him a little more money I think cause I am so thankful!

Oh, he too wants a Western Union down payment, and will ship for free. If I don't like the body, I guess I can send it back? I love this guy! Does anyone need anything? I'll ask if he has it. Hahahahaa...

Those UK scams have been around a long time. I too was looking for a 32 roadster windshield which I had posted on the (old) Ford Barn. A few days later a fella e-mailed me, said he had the parts I needed and very cheap at that but didn't supply a photo, the entire e-mail just seemed strange...long story short, it was a scam and thank god I didn't send the loot.

  8. Weird, as soon as I asked for his complete address, he disappeared?

I'm in Blackpool UK. I've bought the body to carry out a project on it
but got low funds so I have decided to sell it out. My friend is not
on the forum either. I'll be happy to ship the body to you if you are
okay to lay a deposit via Western Union so I can pay for shipping and
handling trusting you to pay balance upon delivery of the body.

  9. Heh Mel,

The whole 'Jerry Garrett' scam has been happening for some time on lots of different forums. They actually start from Nigeria and try to look like they come from England to give them more credibility.

Believe me, if they were from this part of the woods someone would have been round to beat the s**t out of them.

Who would send a load of cash to a stranger? (ha ha)

ps the sedan just gets better and better, ta.

i've said this before , but i think anyone asking for payment via Western Union is not from the UK !
This is not a recognised method of payment over here !
And i personally would not know what the hell to do with one .

    Just my 2p's worth

  11. Ha! I was a stranger, and you sent me money! Hahahaa... you did come over and check me out too though. Hahahaa.

Your car looks great, I love the steel wheels now... better then when I had it with the artillary . People wright me all the time on that car and ask lots of questions still. That is nice. I'm glad you dig!

  12. Ha, ha, ha, ha. . .

Good chuckle I'll bet it got everyone's attention though.

My belly laugh of the day. Hope you get the bugger.

Most of the HAMB'ers are great folks. The again you have exceptions. I was cleaning up the shop a few months back and nothing much was selling so I started filling the scrap bin. All of a sudden I was a huge prick for not making better use of the items. I sent 5 different people items "they really needed" for free and I paid the shipping as well. So far Bill is the ony guy who "really needed" the part and didn't re-sell it here or on the Fordbarn. My exercise in human nature was a success. Karma is a funny thing.

I have a bad taste in my mouth with over seas purchases. Lost out on a basket case 29 chevy roadster parts car I bought on ebay. The seller was legit, had a HAMB'r pick it up for me and that's where shit went south.... Long story short, 6 months later he still hadn't taken it to the shipper. I sent a few wtf email and find out he conveinently left it at a shipper who doesn't accept out of country credit cards or paypal. Just WU. $460 for shipping put out last May, not a word from either since...

Placed a wanted ad on here last week for chevy roadster quarters and had a UK spam email within 2 days...I even put USA only in the title...

    Buyer beware...

  15. I have actually had good luck in both directions to and from the other side of the pond. Most of my dealings have been with HAMBers though, our european counterparts here on the HAMB are a pretty good lot. Most of them are way deeper into trad rodding then anyone would expect. And they seem to have trad morals to go with it.

Scammers suck! Sorry that happened. It's a common story and it can happen to anybody. All we can do is beware.

    Dam that sucks..
    thanks for the heads up
Im getting to the point to where if i cant wrap my hannds around their necks, i dont want to take a chance of dealing with them.
I have been very fortunate on here not getting screwed, but i have been reluctant at times.
shame when a good thing turns out to putting the screws to ya.

Good to hear it wasnt a HAMB deal

Yep, that dude needs to be exposed. How would you feel if he hosed someone else and you could have prevented it?

I'm a Uk citizen and travel about the country a fair bit, if anyone is in any doubt about a possible deal drop me a PM and I'll see if I can verify if the seller is legit. There's really only 3 main UK websites dedicated to rods and being a small country most people know who's who in the scene.
I'd hate to think people would mistrust all of us limey's because of internet scammers (as mentioned previously, never ever use Western Union as a method of payment!).
I buy a fair amount of items from the US and fingers crossed I've only ever been burned once. I sent my Ironhead rocker covers over to have them split but the shop folded and owner vanished.

  21. So basically...

Outsiders are reading our Hamb want adds and then replying to them. I originally told this guy I don't do Western Union. All along, knowing it was a scam... but just toying with him. I have since told him I will send money via a bank transfer. He is getting his friends info for me.

So... once I have this info, what to do? Local authorities will do nothing I'm sure. I've looked online at how to report Internaitional scams. Seems like they don't actual move in fast enough to catch someone. Which sucks... cause we know this is all the same guy, posing as a nice chap with a good collection and preying on the Hamb or other "Ryan" site.

I have his gmail address, waiting for the bank info next. Wish I could catch his ass!

Send him the money Mel, see what happens. Maybe it is a really good deal!:D

  23. There is someone claiming to be in England trolling the wanted ads. He always has what you need, no matter how obscure the part is. Amazing, since a lot of the parts he has would be almost impossible to find in England. Pat.

You can find his ip addy & see if he really is in the UK,although this can change & isn't 100%,or he could have a VPN(virtual ip addy) meaning his ip addy would show him to be anywhere he wants to be!!
