Shit that is my middle boys birthday... I won't be making it out on the 22nd but you girls have a blast without me...
Yeah right like i'll be missed.

  2. The 22nd is my son's B Day. He'll be three. I won't miss that. If we weren't having a party, I'd bring him. Damn, I hate to miss this.

Yep, Chad and I are buddys. He usually crashes out in the spare bedroom at the house when he's in town and uses one of the trucks that usually spends its days in the driveway. It's like a hotel and rental car package all wrapped up into one neat package. I helped get his truck done for him as well.

I hope see a lot of cool cars. I still have an erie feeling from going to the GNRS and parking in a sea of SUV's and then going in and looking at all of those cars but not hearing a single hopped up engine actually run.

that's pretty funny since I have worked in the bike Industry my whole friggin' life. it's cool that alot of BMX guys are getting into old cars instead of lowered blazers and escalades.

Okay - This is picking up some steam with my pals. It's getting close, and I was lucky enough to see Fonzi at the Donut Shop Saturday AM. We mumbled over donuts and coffee and we're getting fired up.

    Now - some requests...

It seems we've got a handle on chili, carne asada, and hot dogs.

We'll need some supporting cast here. Please- someone bring some other stuff, like salads and maybe even sodas.

Also- we hear there's charcoal grilles/pits or something. Let's figure we have one of these to work with - we'll be needing more. If people have little portable BBQs, please bring them out. We may need them just to keep things warm (like chili or carne asada), while the charcoal is actually cooking food.

Any donation of bread products (like hot dog or hamburger buns, tortillas, etc.) would be cool for us non-Atkins dieters. If you want to eat your food from a lettuce leaf, knock yourself out. I prefer the non-Gilligan approach, thanks.

Otherwise, I think we'll be okay. I'm not seeing anyone volunteering any kind of sound system or anything...if you've got something, please bring it along. Even if your car has a good system, just pop the trunk and entertain the crowd....just bring good music and lots of it...we've got hours to kill.

Along those lines, anyone bringing frisbees, footballs, or any other kind of cheeseball picnic entertainment will be appreciated. Considering this is a HAMB deal, I'm not anticipating a huge jock-type responsive need for sports equipment. I'm thinking most of us smokers are good for 1-2 hrs. of physical "fun", then we'd rather eat and chase skirts and talk about old cars.

So, there ya go. The 22nd will be a day to remember in Eldorado Park. I look forward to meeting more of you and seeing others I've had the pleasure to meet before.

This is gonna be so cool...

    See ya there!

    Scotch~!

OK our man FONZ did some homework and learned the park has 2 sides- one is $5 a car and the other is free, but if you're planning a party of more than 25, they want you to get a permit.

    I'm angling toward the permit.

This will give us "official" permission to be there in force, and should serve to help make the BBQ more permissible in the eyes of the park personnel.

After some discussion, neither Fonz nor I will be in the area this week, so we need some assistance....

Would someone please volunteer to head over to the park and get this permit for us? The $25 will surely cover whoever drops it, and they'll not be asked to bring anything further to the shindig. We'd truly appreciate it, and it'll make the whole thing smoother.

    Anyone? Bueller? Dr. J?

    Thanks!

I'm hoping to make it out for this, sounds like a good time. I'll make something to bring. Hopefully my poor car will make it all the way out there, I don't think we've ever takin it that far before, so I'm keepin' my fingers crossed.

Fucking GANG that is the government of Long Beach... [IMG]

NO fucking permits... We don't need a fucking permit because we are not a "group"
We are each individuals who will arrive in individual vehicles and co-incidentally happen to meet up with other people at the park that we might get along with and share a few picnic benches.
Like Back to the Beach two years ago when West Coast Customs couldn't get the city to issue a permit but we went, as individuals, anyway...

If someone gets a permit the GANG/government has someone to blame if they decide they don't like us there, as a group.
If we don't have a permit and NO ONE ADMITS THAT WE ARE AN ORGANIZED GROUP then what can they do?
(We don't even know each other's real names so how can we be considered a group?)
FUCK the GANG that is the Long Beach Government.
They just invent any fucking way they can to get more "insurance money" out of anyone they can, like a MAFIA!
As long as we pay our admission per car they don't have a right to bitch.

Besides, even if you have a permit, it doesn't guarantee you a space in the park and if there isn't room they won't help you get any.

    Fuck um.

A permit will just make the person who signs for it liable for anything the city wants to claim happened, and if they aren't thinking something might happen with a group, and want to have someone's name on a permit claiming responsibility, why would they have a permit system?...
I've seen cops "invent" situations.. (Anyone else know what it's like to run from the L.A. Metro squad in a concert crowd of 300,000 people on Venice Beach after the cops gave them 90 SECONDS to disburse?)

Anyone want to carry that responsibility?

    I sure don't.

    Well then...

As mentioned, there are two sections of the park - one that's $5 a car and one that's free, but requires a permit.

Since the good Dr. has, er, "recommended" against the permit, we'll agree that our get-together will occur on the $5 per-car side of the park, and I doubt we'll be too tough to find.

Fonz & I are planning to get there early to grab some space. Any others who'd like to help us stake a claim would be most welcome.

    Thanks!

We want to be in the section between the 605 freeway on the East and the river on the West and Spring Street WHERE THE ONLY ENTRANCE IS, on the South and just South of Carson St, (and the LBPD firing range) on the North. There's a large stand of trees (that I watched them plant in the early fifties) and a BBQ about 50 yards past the gate on the freeway side that's good if it's available. I recommend staying South of Wardlow though because people fly radio controlled gliders North of Wardlow and they can make dents...

I Love Long Beach...I just can't stand the crony money grubbing politicians. They spend all their time dreaming up more ways to charge for any aspect of life the can imagine.
Ya gotta pay monthly (Sewer "service fee" on the utility bill) to take a shit in this cheap-ass town now.

Well, I'll do my bestest to make it and bring some single girlies with me too. If anyone is interested, later that night we could carry it on down to the dive bar I work at in the evening, The Little Knight in Costa Mesa.
