Love it or hate it, the next "RIDES" episode looks more like what will appeal to this crowd - cuttin' the **** out of a 56 chevy pickup.

My question is, does anybody know this guy?

The shop is in SOCAL and the guys name is Justin Scott Patefield.

******** from the episode guide *********************
He and his young team of hip builders are complete and entertaining throwbacks to the "old school" ways of building cars. There isn't much in the way of computer-aided drawing, modern-day technical preplanning or years of model building before they begin a car — they simply drag a rusty heap into their 20,000-square-foot garage and rip into the thing.

Less and less the further east you go I'd think. Like Pomona or further maybe?

Depending on location, anywhere from 35¢ to $15 (and up) a square foot.
Or probably around $10,000 a month if it's not in a retail store area, then it's going to be closer to the higher figure

Christ! How do they stay in business? Seems like they'd have to crank out a car every week or something.

Yea, I saw the preview. It is Scott's Hot Rods.

I'm still going to watch it, cause it's car related, but the finished product is not really HAMB material.

After seeing someone's sectioned truck on here a year or two ago I can't look at that body style without wanting the character line from the cab to rear fender to line up.

"There isn't much in the way of computer-aided drawing, modern-day technical preplanning or years of model building before they begin a car..." They just start ****ing **** up with no forethought or game plan.

Those are the HACKS that did such a ****ty job installing bags on my heap. Their "suspension expert" was the brake and alignment HACK they stole from the local Firestone retailer.

HACKS that over-welded on my rear axle housing which tweaked the ends 1/4-inch out of true, causing it to spit the right axle twice before I figured out the problem and had it straightened. Lost a tire each time when the whitewall grinding itself to dust on the inside of the quarter was the only braking action available once it let go.

HACKS that built bar-mount brackets that ripped out of the x-member leaving a tear big enough to stick your hand into.

HACKS that installed the rear bags BEHIND the axle for the minimum-possible amount of lift.

Not to mention ****TY four-bar geometry..

    HACKS HACKS ****ING HACKS

Of course they wouldn't let me write about THAT part of the install in R&C.. I did mention the bracket that ripped out of the frame in an R&C update and they (HACKS) threatened to sue the magazine because I printed the truth..

I'd have been better off with the leaf springs, air shocks and spring wrap-up on acceleration that I started with. Instead, my car rode the ramp truck 4 times before I worked out all of their ****ty 'fabrication'.

Did I mention that they're HACKS?

I did get a free t-shirt though, I used it to mop up an oil spill in the driveway.

Oh, and I coiled a bowl-winder this morning with ten times the style of that ruined Chevy truck. They should have restored it, at least it would have had another chance at being cool in the future.

jeez Louise- they're the clowns that messed up your Olds? wow. I remember reading that....

    thanks for the background. dang.

  13. I've heard from at least 3 people that they've ordered parts from them only to take way too long (months and months over due) to get anything and when they do the get ****py made parts. Wanting a refund from taking so long (before parts araive) and refusing the request, sending the ****pily made parts back to be corrected only to come back as **** again, etc...

Randy, these are the IFS guys.

I saw a show on them once on Speedvision they talked a good story, and a friend has one of there front ends on his Stude. It looks nice, definately a hi-tech look, but I haven't talked to him since right after he installed it so I don't know how well it's doing. I do remember when he was done he didn't/couldn't use drop spindles because the car was low enough without them.

Ryan, this is their email address from the website

Was wondering WTF was up with their wierd setup, especially the mount hanging below the frame. I cringed bad when I saw what was left of the ShortOlds after thing ripped itself apart.

Did they fix it for free? If not, they definately need to get some bad press.

It's hard for me to believe these HACK jokers are going to get positive, national recognition tonite when there are SO MANY really deserving shops out there. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Sorry to hear about what happened Rick. I'll help spread the word of the HACK shop!

That's what I love about the HAMB... That it's remained honerable after all it's been though, and still is able to hold the light of truth in the face of liars or HACKS.

Yeah they "fixed" it, and caused more damage. I wouldn't let them touch it again after that.

    edit:

Man, I just reread my original post.. I come off pretty harsh, huh? I really don't like to **** talk people in public but I've had some high sphincter-factor moments due to this mess and get pretty wound up on the subject.

Ever spit an axle on the freeeway at 70 and lose your brakes with it?
Had a bar bracket rip out of the frame causing a bag to blowout and the frame to bounce on the freeway at 75?
    I have.

I imagine Justin has a whole different crew since the 3+ years since I was there, maybe things have changed. Maybe not. I hope so.

    and that truck still ****s.

You have to wonder. The show started with the new Ford Cobra, then Chip Fooses's shop.. now this??

Someone has got to have an "in!? " I'm starting to lose faith in TLC.
