I spent 6 years in Iowa going to college (Grinnell and UofI). Now I live in PA. Does that make me "from Iowa"? If not,two of my three girls now live in Iowa, one in Grinnell and one in Iowa City. Deja vu' all over again.
Most of my kin folk are in Iowa. Mostly around the Carroll area. If you run into any of the "Grote's" out there they are related to me, they are thick as flies out there. My dad had 12 brothers and sisters and he is the only one that only had 2 kids. I have around 64 cousins running around in that area. I know one of my cousins was/is part owner of the golf course in Carroll. My Uncle Pauly used to be the auctioneer at the sale barn in Denison many moons ago. Hell, he still might be there for all I know! Some of you probably bought your dates.....um, I mean sheep and livestock from him. My Uncle John Hamilton owns Greene County Redi Mix in Jefferson, Iowa just west of Ames. Go see him for all of your concrete needs. He is pretty cool too, he has a few cars and old semis.
Cedar Rapids resident, here. Got three corn sweetener plants with a fourth being started to give the town something to make hog farms smell good. Ever smell fermenting roasted corn? Reminds me of a dynamited outhouse. Keeps out the yuppies, though.
Is that something you folks do down in Misery? Sickos. You know what they say would happen if Iowa gave its lower two tiers of counties to MO...
HAAA! That's funny! LOL! I actually had a friend growing up who had sheep on their farm that they raised for the textile industry. I never heard of any beasty stuff going on at their place, but then I didn't live on a farm either...
I'm fairly new, but I'm in Des Moines, and I'd like the idea of a meet at porky's, or somewhere cool.
My girl was born in Fort Madison in the south east. We were just there visiting her family. Money doesn't smell to good. Saw a lot of barn finds I would have loved to take home.
i live 23 miles south of ft. madison...5 miles from keokuk..wished i would have known you coulda went to wayland, mo and had a beer at my restaurant..
Located in Ottumwa, SE iowa. building a 27 t coupe.... at night work at PB Choppers in Moravia during the day. Living the good life.

I live between Pella and Otley - 1/2 acre, two dogs, lots of cats, too many cars & trucks. Ahh...that's the life. Sitting out on porch, we can hear the cars at Knoxville on Saturday night - just a short drive to Porky's, close to Eddyville Drag Strip - where I work weekends, and we can get all the tenderloins we want! Raised West of Des Moines, lived in Pasadena, Texas for 2 1/2 years, Longmont, Colorado for 15 years, back in Iowa for 11. My kids love it here! FORDY 6 lives about 4 miles South of me. I know there are more HAMBr's in this area. Tom - restorit
I grew up in Fredericksburg, gradulated in '87. Went to Fayette'nam at Up 'Yer Iowa University for a couple of years. Now work and reside in Decorah for the past 17 years. Jon
Born in Ames. Raised in Anamosa, the town without pity. Lived in Tulsa Feb.'84-Aug.'89. Really liked it there(the women are soooo preety too!). Here? Cleaner air, better food. Moved back (Anamosa) but that's still 'no where man' as 'Long Beach John' so stated. Like any palce you go, good people are hard to find.
Very Interesting! My son-in-law is Adam Smith-works as an attorney in the big building outside of town. If you see him, tell him I said hi. I'll look you up next time I'm in Grinnell. Jeff
Holy crap there are a load of Iowa folks on here, including me... I am orginally from south of Waterloo and graduated from U of Iowa Engineering. Damn do I miss Iowa City!! I was a part of the brain drain and got the hell out. Cept that I am now stuck in f'kin Michigan, which amazingly enough is flatter than Iowa! I miss roaming the countryside looking for old tin. You would swear it grows along with the corn. And thanks whoever brought up pork tenderloins.... I forgot how amazingly good those are.... Now I really want one and I am in freaking Michigan where they don't exist!! Aarrgghhh!! Damn I need to get in the shop and burn some wire.
Born in Algona..... Escaped to So. Mn. at a young age (4). Most relatives originated from the Algona, Bancroft area....
