Here we go again. Maggie & I are on an adventure starting on October 1st. We are taking US HWY 2 from St Ignace Michagan to Everette Washington. Anyone along the way that would like to show us your Cars, Shop, Tavern, or what have you shoot me a PM and we shall see about stopping for a look see. BB
Bob, watch your nightly stops in ND. Hard to find a room in the Western end of the state with the oil boom.
Whats happening in Everett? The big Monroe swap meet is the weekend of Oct 6th and 7th. Usually a lot of HAMB guys there. Monroe is the first large town coming down out of the mountains. I think its around 12 miles to Everett from there.
Nuthin at all, that's where US HWY 2 ends, we have a thing about that, have done lots of them, both ends of US 45, 41, 40, 30 etc. We like the back roads. BB
Highway 2 from the top of Steven's P*** all the way to Everett is, unfortunately, not really a "back road" any more. It's still a great scenic drive, but, it is becoming incredibly over crowded. It's one of the more dangerous drives in Washington state. Please take care, and if you run in to any trouble out this way, don't hesitate to give me a call. 360-853-5833. I'm in Skagit County (North of Monroe a little ways, but, I know the area well), and have a trailer/shop. King Charlies burger stand at the Snohomish exit is a pretty good historic burger joint. My dad has great stories of his dad taking him there as a kid for cherry ice cream shakes. Hope you have an excellent trip.
You need to try US 6! California to Cape Cod! Now that would be a blast from the past. If you really want to start at the real US 6 west end, you will start at San Pedro, Ca. Then travel up I110 to I5 then exit at Sierra Hwy. Go east on Sierra Hwy till you have to merge onto CA14, then travel up to Bishop, CA. where US 6 is posted again. Known as "The Grand Army of the Republic Highway". I call it the grandaddy of them all!
Yes, be careful on the Steven's P*** to Everett section. It's known as the "highway of death"; we had two fatalities just last week from two separate accidents. Enjoy your trip. Butch/56sedandelivery.
Bob, I live right on HWY 2 4 miles before Grand Rapids, MN. Got lots of stuff, some of its even good. I can probably get some of the locals to show up Stop in. I'll PM you you are interested. Steve and Barb
I grew up on US 2 in Escanaba, Mi. My folks still live there. Be sure to eat a pasty when you're in the UP. Car wise there's not a whole lot going on in Escanaba, but check out Randy Hallman Specialty Cars in Iron Mountain. You'll be driving right past it. Here's their web site http://www.randyhallmanspecialtycars.com Also the House of Yesteryear Museum has some cool stuff to see.
Steve: Yes we are interested, I'll give you a call when we are about 2 Days out. PM me your contact info please. I'll put your addy in my GPS Thanks BB
Have a great trip Bob. About 12 miles West of Hurley is the home of my folks. They sell produce from a roadside stand in the front yard. If time allows, stop in and say hello.
Ohhhh, I like the sound of the cherry icecream shake, please have one of those for me ........... safe and happy travels Jx
Hey X; Yeah, Randy has been a friend for many years and we are quite familiar with his shop. We generally stop at the Breezy Point near Escanaba for a Asiago Cheese Burger and we plan to do it again this year. We usually buy Pasty's to take home and freeze but not this trip. BB
I'm on hiway 2, not much to see at my place though, but if there is a hamb get togather around here i'd love to hit it
Bob, you'll certainly enjoy the scenery after you get past East Glacier. About a mile past Kila Mt. honk your horn, my youngest son lives there. What's the route for the return run?
When you get to the junction of hwy 2 and hwy 93 in Kalispell,Mt turn left on hwy 93 S go 1/2 block to "Moose's" Saloon. It will be on your left. It will be an experience. Sawdust on floor beer only Pizza or sandwich's. Terry
Did that ride back in the late 90's on 2 wheels. I remember freezing in the AM in the U.P., being eaten alive by mosquitoes at Devils Lake ND, baked alive the next day at Williston ND & drown by a rain storm when I got into MT. Desination was Glacier NP where I froze again for 2 days. Great ride. I'd do it again if I still lived in Mi.
when you get past Leavenworth heading towards the p***, stop in at the 59er Diner for a bite. Cool place. I'm too far off the beaten path and not enough stuff to make the trip worthwhile. Have a great trip. Bud
Gotta hit the Sultan Bakery in Sultan WA. Best breakfast in town. I'm sure their other meals are good as well just never had one.
Bob, Number 2 is a great run. As of 2010, there was a bunch of new pavement in the parks and elswhere and nobody on it. Look at the map of #2 between Shelby Mt and Kalispel through Glacier National Park. At the bottom of the "V" there is a little bar on the north side of the highway. It's been an operating stage coach stop/restaurant/bar. That's where you get stopped up if there's a fire going on. The ceiling used to be COVERED in money. In 2010 coming back from Deuce Days in Victoria we stopped there for some breakfast. Good home cooked food Oh yea! Dirt T, I can vouch for Moose's Saloon
Rochie: Do you remember the name of that tavern? I have printed out the info on all the rest of the suggestions but would like to have the name of that bar. BB
The Halfway House? Near beautiful Es*** MT.....that is the only bar next to the hwy in that area. Was closed when I went thru there a couple weeks ago...
Havn't planned that out yet Jack but will prolly take 94 back as we must go back out to Bellingham WA. next June to start the Alaska trip. We will prolly go out on 90 then. How's by you my friend? BB
