Hamber's that Surf......roll call......

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Farmer, Dec 28, 2003.

  1. Hey Pogo hows it going out there. Well yes I started surfing at age 9, I am forty years old now. Three months back I was in the waters of Manhattan Beach every day. I have surfed every good spot from Santa Cruz to Mazatlan. Thinking of selling my boards now that I live in Texas. I'm picking up more car projects to keep my mind off the waves. It helps. [IMG]

  2. Cold water surfer here. West coast of Vancouver Island and Washington are my spots but I don't get out nearly as often as I'd like to. I'm lucky if I get out twice a year lately. The new RDS skatepark just opened up close by so I get my board fix on a 13 1/2' half pipe instead.

Slowed down quite a bit, born and raised in so-cal surfed alot in baja T.J. to the tip.Used to surf the Ranch alot.In the Coast Guard I surfed Virginia,Carolinas-Hatteras,outer banks(epic).American Somoa,Costa Rica,Hawaii,Acapulco,Oregon,Washington was cool-(the Elwha river is 60 miles inland on the straits and it has a sick left at the mouth.)also Canada.Due to 10% disabled I only surf on trips or when its good.Plus I cant stand the crowds and the blowin kooks that try to own the beaches I grew up in.My family and hotrods take up 99% of my time.Wouldnt mind hitting Scorpian bay one more time with friends.

  6. Well, here's a post that's near and dear -- missed it when I was gone over Xmas down to So Cal. I've surfed since 1961. My dad built me my first board, and also got me my first roadster. I was very lucky to grow up with a familly that encouraged both. I'm blessed now to have a wife that does the same. The downside is, it takes about twice as long for a surfer to build a car -- [IMG] [IMG] I enjoyed the dolphin stories, and am lucky to live in a place with abundant sea life. So I've got a story to share. I was out one evenings at a spot in Santa Cruz called "Privates." About 200 yards from 4Woody's house. it's behind a locked gate, and features a little cove for nude sunbathers. It's unsure which feature gave the spot its name. It was a glassy evening, with a warm sun low on the horizon. I was out with just my neighbor, when a third guy joined us. He's a glasser for one of the local shapers here and it turned out his dad had just died. His house was full of grieving relatives and he just needed get in the water to clear his head out. We shared waves awhile (only three guys out is a rare and treaured event these days) when a pod of dolphin came to visit. Ralph was sitting down the line a bit when two dolphins breeched in unison on either side of him. They both cleared the water by at least six feet, and no more than ten feet from him. The late afternoon light turned the spray that trailed them to pure gold. Ralph looked at the two of us and said "Well, that was all I needed..." and paddled in. He didn't even wait for a wave.

Detonator that was way cool......Farmerjohn the Elwha river is about 3-4 miles from Port Angeles going west.It is a good left when its on.To get out in the lineup you just jump in the rivermouth whick is about 20 yards wide and it pushes you outside, its a side current when your outthere so dont worry.Where a good leash and wetsuit that river is a little chilly. When its clear out and its on its a beautiful place man. 8. In the 80's I used to boogie board Santa Cruz every weekend. In high School all my friends were surfers and I would hang out with them get into trouble etc etc. I owned a board once but never used it just set it in the back of the Convertible 65 Mustang and thought I was cool! haha What a dork I was!
