well i started this build back in March . a friend of mine can across this body with some brake parts that he wanted. the owner wanted a powerglide tranny for the parts and the body. Gary (my friend) call me cause he did not have a tranny, but all i had was turbos. so we got in touch with another friend that swapped us a p.g. for a turbo. and back to the owner we went. he was happy , gary got his brake parts and i had a new prodject..... now what to do with it. ive been to the last 2 HAMB DRAGS in my T roadster and love it , but the T isnt the safest thing. so why not build it into a drag car.... when i told Gary my ideal he said that he had a 301 c.i. chevy in the back of his shop that he alway wanted to here run but never had anything to put it in. so i stared the chassis and he started to overhaul the 301 . just needed rings and bearings . the 301 was biult and race in '60 to around '64 and then parked. o yae did i say it was in a '32 5 window ford coupe gasser....now over 5 months i build this car in hopes of the '08 hamb drags . well the nite before we leave im still tuning on the motor . the car has a few 100 yard pass in front of the house but hasnt see a track yet. so off we go headed to Joplin . day of the drag , we get there and do a once over of the car . i change out the spark plugs and get a wire crossed. (in a hurry i guess) while fixing that problem we find water in the oil. figure out that we have a leaking intake gasket . so the wonderfull wife makes a run back to town for parts an off come the cross ram right there in the grass covered pits. 2 hours later back to the lanes we go. now remember this in an untested car. so i line up (scared almost shitless) and wait for the green light . i was watching my tach and almost miss the light. so it turns green and i pull the trigger and off it goes. pretty striaght so far so i bang 2cd , still pulling, so i hit 3rd.... and the clutch starts to complain but she holds in there . and so i start to catching up with the truck that i running againts , if only i had had about 200 more feet i think i might have caught him....:D but he got me on the light and he won the race ..... so i pull around and pick up my timeslip , i pulled in the pits and cant believe what im reading ...... 12.12 sec @ 114 mph..... what the hell .... i had to read it twice... i thought mid 13s .. but no , damn little car went low 12..... now you ask ... is driveing from tx 10 hours to do 12 seconds worth it..... HELL YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!. but i only got 1 run as the clutch gave me all it had on the first run . the second run was in the 18s . so we call it quits . but just wait till i get a new clutch!!!!!:D

I was really diggin' your car. Great story to go with it. Congrats on the time slip.

I had six runs but fighting a bad bog off the line (and not the right jets to fix it) ...then Sunday morning in the parking lot of the hotel I'm wrenching on my truck chasing down scary noises... found loose converter bolts. Guess that's what several 7 grand shifts on the ol' 340 can do.

It's all fun. Great job on your car....

the rear is a ford 9" out of a pickup .4.88 full spool. i ask several people with soild rear ends how they handled( thanks Roothawg) and they had no problems. its just a bracket welded to the housing and one welded to the frame then bolted together . as i said it was my first run and it hooked good and drove striaght , so we'll see where it goes from here....
