Greetings; Within the next month we'll be installing a moon tank on my front spreader bar. I've just come across a Bell hand pressure pump and would like to install that as well. One question I have is: did these pumps use a premade bracket that attached the pump to the tank or were they fabbed by the guy installing them? I've searched through the archives with no luck on info. So my plea to those HAMBERS out there who have them is: Lets see some closeup pictures of your pump brackets and how they connect to your tank. I appreciate any help that comes my way! CBN
Period and use affect this... Sprint cars and such had the pump arranged for use by driver, usually bracketed outside ****pit. Early drag cars, especially ones used on the street on which the pressure setup was the racing-only unit, had them in the ****pit, bracketed to side, through an instrument hole in dash, or on tank mounted near driver. At some point, NHRA decided that having the fuel system inside the ****pit might not be a good idea...by this time, the pressure systems were usually only on compe***ion only cars, and pump could be bracketed to tank or built into tank through the cap for pumping by crew.
If I remember correctly these pumps were designed to be used while circle track racing to pressurize the tank. They were sold as a dash mount or side mount. If it has no bracket then it's probably a dash mount style and you'll have to make a bracket.
Here are some pics of a pump with valve. If you look closely at Tom McMullen's moon tank, you'll see this set up attached to the moon tank. There is a nice feature in TRJ #32. A bracket was made and the pump was attached to it. Many pumps were also bolted to the underneath the dash.
Here are two versions of Eelco pumps. In the first picture the pump's bracket is welded to the tank itself. The second one is a pump with a 3-bolt flange that would have been dash mounted. There's another style that has two feet on it so it can be mounted to a midget or sprint car side panel.
