This is a new one on me, who's got a 503 Chevy/GMC straight 6?

 

That has got to be a fairly rare bird, even when new.

You missed the 501 Red Diamond IH guys on Sunday.

 

I've heard of the 305 GMC v6 but not the 503 CMC straight six.

 

It's interesting. The 503 was an upgrade and replacement over the 426 inline 6 used in the 40's. I wonder how many parts the 426 g***er shared with the 6-71 Diesel since they had the exact same bore and stroke and the gas 426 was released to the public in 1939, one year after the 6-71? Probably not many since a 2 stroke diesel is a completely different animal, but it is still a fun thought experiment to put oneself in the shoes of those engine designers and wonder what you would do given the opportunity.
