    Happy birthday Gene Thanks for all you have done for this hobby. At 84 you are doing more than most people do in their 30,s (I'm sure you have heard 1/2 your age before). Im 62 and want to be as active as you at 84. What is your secret?

    I think that the 'hooded' headlight thing is awesome.. I haven't seen it anywhere else. Is there a reason why that wasn't ever as well adopted as other headlight mods?

    I've always loved Gene's very clean style and once owned a car I'm pretty certain was one of his creations. Even though it had been radically changed over the years it still had the canted Studebaker taillights and had once been painted the correct color. I was told it was a Winfield car when I bought it for $600 in about 1977. I sold it a few years later while in college and lost track of it. I really wish I'd taken more pictures in those days but it's pretty obvious that the later custom changes were not an improvement. I don't know why, but I still have the title for this car in my files.

    I race with Gene at El Mirage but rarely get a chance to talk with him. The day this pic was taken me and my son talked with him for an hour like we were best friends, it was the first time we officially met. Last weekend at ElMo I said, hello Mr Winfeild, he walked towards me looked me in the eye and said, I want you to call me Gene! He is THE nicest, most humble man there is!! Oh yeah, and talented!
