Been there, had the garage door open, just beat the explosion out the door. Glad you are OK. Gas water heaters at the very least need to be up off of the floor, if not put somewhere else, preferably where ther are no fumes to ignite. Again, glad you are ok. Too bad about the car-pretty cool. But not as cool as being around tomorrow...

Sorry to hear that. I've got a friend who lost his race car and house that way and then his wife divorced him when he used the insurance money to build another racer car rather than build a new house.

That sucks, but why is the interior burnt and nothing under the hood is if it were a gas fire?

Geez man, good luck. That's a shitty way to end the year. At least it's all uphill in 12, right?

Glad you're OK, still under roof, and still have the desire to build. It sucks that it happened, but you and the house are intact, and the car looks repairable.

ok here is the full story...
i was draining the fuel tank to remove it... i was sitting at the back of the bumper watching it drain out... my water heater is raised the required 18 inches...according to the fire department it didnt matter...the garage door was open, but fumes still built up in the garage... i watched the explosion come from the front of the car to where i was sitting..blew me back on my ass... the reason the front of the car was not burnt is because i had been having trouble getting fuel to the motor..(so there was none in it...) i had drained all but a gallon of gas from the tank...alll the gas was in pails at the back of the car so when it lit the fire was concentrated at the rear of the car..the interior burnt because a flame wrapped around and set a seat on fire...sitting on that seat was a new can of brake clean...which blew...when it did the interior was fully engulfed and all the windows blew out!! i got away with a burn on my hand..a bruised ass..and some singed facial hair.... the fire never left the car..so i only lost the car..a pile of extension cords (melted together)...and a batt. charger!! i do feel very lucky..and learned one hell of a lesson.
car was not insured against fire..... but all is good!!

Thanks for info - lesson learned for all of us, an expensive one. had a friend working on a car that turned out to have a lot of gas in oil pan from stuck open carb. went to drain pan and oil/gas hit cheapo drop light that ignited everything under car. at that exact moment a friend stopped by just by chance and pulled him out from under car. car looked like yours and a lot of surface damage to garage.

Thank God you and the family and the house are alright.

Bummer about the car though. It looks like it was a clean ride.

  30. Wow.......sorry for the catastrophe, you sound like you have a good attitude about it and show gratitude for being spared. Great that you shared the experience........this could save another from overlooking these types of dangers........again the outreaching power if the Hamb. :)
