From one vet to all those who are vets I hope you had a super Veterans Day. A buddy of mine and I did our Veterans Day thing again this year. Started out at the Veterans club for breakfast then to Hyvee for coffee rolls and programs then to Texas Roadhouse for lunch. Had a great time hope you all did too

A crappy copy of one of my favorite photos of my uncle Bill. He's hitch hiking his way from the midwest to his next duty station on the east coast, where he's to be trained as a Radioman. After training, he went aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Leyte. Using radar, he radioed fighter and light attack pilots to help guide them for attack.
I'm so grateful to say that he's still with us and pushing 90! He doing real well and I try to spend as much time with him as I can. He's a great guy and quite a character. I'm truly blessed. He was also the major influence for me joining the Navy (80-84) and I was a board 2 Carriers wrenching on aircraft.
    Happy Veterans Day.

    Today is Veteran's Day.

RIP to our brothers who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

This isn't about Memorial Day. This is about paying homage to all Veteran's of all wars and peace time. A day to reflect of what the United States Armed Forces are about.

It's not about the BBQ's and the beer. It's about the Soldier, The Sailor, The Marine, The Airman and the Coast Guardsmen. That's right. The FIVE branches of the United States Armed Forces.

There will be a wreath laid at the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier, "Known But To God". There will be a 21 gun salute.

There will be United States Flags placed at each grave in each Veteran's Cemetery across our nation.

Some Veterans will have the day off as some Veteran's will have to go to work. And there are those Veterans who will be in our V.A. Hospitals for the ailments of war. And there will be Veterans who, although they are home, still have that war raging in their minds.

Today, instead of heading out for a free meal at Denny's or other places, I am going to feast on an MRE. It's my day and I'll reflect as as I please.

It is for the United States Veteran, that this day is for.

    God Bless Us All.....

Happy our day to all my brothers in arms.

If you get a minute a short video some of us can relate too. It is not just about the injured and dead it's about all of us on our day.

    Remember Johnny Spann

The old man is a poser guilty of "Stolen Valor" If he would wear a cap claiming he was a veteran of Veitnam rather than Viet-Nam.
If in actuality he had been there, he would surely know where he'd been. CMC

Some years back, a group of us Houston HAMBer's got permission to display our cars at the Houston VA hospital. It was one of the best times I ever had in my car. I'm proud to have served and my memories are priceless. U.S. Navy, DC2 Wyche

A couple years later, I had the pleasure to meet the "Kissing Sailor", Glenn McDuffie at the Houston VA hospital. He was more than happy to accept a HAMB cap.

I took my best friend to the VA one the 9th. They kept him a few days and when I picked him up the news was not good. This is a Vietnam Marine who had to sign up for the draft after he got home. He was not old enough to buy a beer. He reminds me every day of the debt we owe our Vets, a debt we can never repay only honor.
On another front hot rodders owe our Vets a whole other kind of recognition. So many came home with a thirst for speed and power and with determination to pursue it. We are direct recipients of that pursuit. Thank all of you.

  24. Just a thought to remember both my grandfather, WWII Army Sgt with 10th Mtn Div in Europe and My great uncle who was a Sergeant with King Company, 3rd Bn 5th Marines in the Pacific. Neither are around any more, but both had a profound affect on how I would grow up. They had one other brother who was in the Army Air Corps. Even their sister was part of the USO. Sgt was the Rank for my family... myself included.

This is my Dad while home on leave in 1942 with his 40 Chevy convertible. He never talked too much about his time in the Army Air Force during WWII. When I went in the Army in 1971, not knowing where I would end up and scared of what may be ahead for me, he just told me that I would go where the Army though they needed me and to do the best I could do and God would take care of the rest.
