Tony Defeo did it though. He used to swing by here, last post was over 10 years ago.

 

My unassembled Brookville doors are ready. I will go there and pick them up this Friday.
I should be back on the chop next week.

I picked up my unassembled doors. Kenny has all his stamping issues solved and these doors are available now.

Putting the door top back together with the laid back a-pillar. Next is weld this part up , then add the reinforcement structure at the a-pillar. The final piece will be putting the side glass track guide in.

 

Judging from the work done, this is all well within your skill set. I just wondered if there were any parts that made you scratch your head or have to rethink things?

 

I have been waiting for these doors with as much anticipation as you have.

Great that the door supply issue has been resolved. Even better is that the door looks to be well on its way to fitting the door aperture nicely which wouldn't have been the case originally when the body was first set up, in whatever the thread was called thread! Finish line is in sight!

Where are we going after this? Enjoying the ride and don't want to get off!

I’ve only had two snags building this car.

First was the A-pillar/front door jamb not fitting. A relief cut was made in the body to correct the alignment with the jamb.
Second was the fuel filler hose and the roll bar pipe interference. Easy fix. Making a roll bar to fit and keep all the wood inner structure was well planned out. But the fuel hose from the flip top cap to the tank needed a little tweak.

the car is going together great. The build could have been a little easier if I had an original 3-window to do side by side comparisons. I’ve been lucky to have many H.A.M.B. members help me with their knowledge. Much appreciated guys.

The left inner door is fitted and finished. I will fabricate an X-brace and get the glass channel, regulator, and glass template made and working before I fit the door skin.

 

Do you plan on putting in a secondary locking/latching mechanism?

 

I have the Brookville dead bolt system but I may just use a hook and eye latch as my safety. Would seem more period correct to me. I’m not sure I need anything since my frame is boxed and X-braced, plus the roll cage should prevent body twist popping my doors open.

 

I like that, kinda simple, did I miss the door check strap?

 

You might think about installing the door glass before skinning it???
Can you get your glass template installed if skin is in place?

I have the inner door finished. I made X-bracing for the insides. This really strengthened the door, but added weight. I’m going to drill 47 holes in the brace to lighten the door.

I spy spacers between the inner skin and the window mech. New one on me. What's that about? I haven't got those and my winders seem mysteriously stiff. Hhmmm. Really interested in finding out your why!

I also see your door bracing is made of steel channel. No wonder it's heavy? Nascar side bars??

No spacers on the regulator. That is how they are designed to clear the clock spring. Those are mounting studs. Mystery solved.

The channel is 1/2 x 2 x 1/8 thick. It’s 1.33 lbs per foot. What would you recommend I use?

 

Bobby Walden makes his inner braces from sheet metal. Turns edges for strength.

No suggestion on material use, just an observation in a good way, no criticism intended!

The sheet metal braces sounds like a good idea. I could have brake formed a channel out of 16ga and used that.
My regulators are united pacific.

 

A lot of extra weight on a door with 33% less hinges sounds like it could be a problem. If it were mine I’d probably be bracing the backside of the B pillar more than the internal of the door just to hold the door up.
