  1. I would have problems accepting a 2 for 86 dollars an hour.
daves way was the right professional 10 way to cut a hole.
littleman is a talented tool maker and deals with thousandths on a daily basis
not just whacking it with a bandsaw on a 6 figure masterpiece.
    no disrespect to shine intended.
    just an observation.
    good luck little dave:)

I thought the first episode was alright. The pace is alittle slow and we as viewers were given background info on the five as oppose to 100% build footage but thats what makes us drawn to the "characters". The producers are showing us their strenghts/weakness/personalities/ etc. All of these factors will have an influence on the one decision that will be made at the end of five months.

Because we all know Dave and his skills it's real hard to imagine him NOT getting the position in the end. The other two guys don't even come close and the two girls were just jokes. I have no clue as to why either of them were picked to participate. There are lots of girls in this country, many right here on the HAMB, that could easily weld and grind circles around those two AND have the PASSION, DRIVE and DESIRE required to build cars and live the hot rod lifestyle. Some of us just don't "wear the uniform" so to speak which I guess doesn't make for good TV.

I think the following episodes will pick up the pace of actually building and fabracating.......at least I hope.

I'm thrilled for Littleman and wish him the best of luck.

One more thing though that I thought didn't make alot of sense. Don't most people fab and fit EVERYTHING first, then tear the car back apart, then paint, then put everything back together?? The fabing and installing of all these little parts that should have been made BEFORE paint was driving me crazy. Maybe I'm just being alittle picky about drilling a hole for window molding after paint when in my mind it should have been done beforehand. What do I know though....I'm just a girl with no fingernails.:D

  3. Anyone that can fit in the shop with Shines big head of his way or no way is just set for a life of I gave you this job you better do what I say bullshit.

I cannot bash Jimmy Shine he has always been good to me, I introduced Jimmy to my good friend Rick Flake whom built the clone of Jimmy's truck, Shine was so cool to Rick that he let Rick drive the original truck around the parking lot at the LA Roadster show. Now for Dave "Littleman he kicks ass and is an awesome guy, I also got to talk to him at the SoCal open house and all I can say is good luck to a HAMB brother.

  5. I totally Agree Denise. I would love to see a couple of you REAL HOT ROD LADIES, from the HAMB of course. On that show, showing up even the majority of the men.

Good luck Dave. I do agree with your way of cutting that hole. If not with a Plasma, then your way was perfect, andit would have been way more accurate than the band saw. A rookie is not going to have the experience to cut that hole PERFECT with a band saw. Your so called "CRUDE" Method was a better way to go in my opinion.

As for fabibng all the little things up at the end, yes, I would have done all the fabbing and put it together first, then EVERYTHING comes apart then goes to paint, poweder coat, etc. As for the starter, there should have been no reason that starter was not brand spankin new, or completely rebuilt before even being put on the vehicle.

Oh yeah not trying to bash anyone at all. It's just how I was taught to do things. Now where do I send my application to be on the show :D

seems to me our pall Dave is a ringer. how could he not get the job unless he decided he did'nt want it??? i guess time will tell though. you just have to accept that this is reality exactly the way some producer set it up. it's 90% about the drama and 10% about the cars but that seems to be what attracts most people to the T.V.. i guess thats why they call it "The Idiot Box".
look at that American Chopper crap. i've seen half a dozen episodes, for some unknown reason, and besides building some of the ugliest shit around (these gimic covered "theme bikes" make me wanna PUKE!) all they do is show off this disfunctional family group and parade the occasional celebrity through the shop. they have some skills, i'm not knocking that, but i can't relate to anything they build.
as for Boyd's show i could barely make it through 2 episodes of it. in fact i turned it off before i got through the second one. just garbage from what i saw. big egos and bad attitudes don't do it for me, but to each his own i guess.

as for Shine's show. the first episode was slow for sure. i'm hoping it picks up from here on out now that the introductions and the "set up" are out of the way. i have huge respect for Shine and Chapouris (not to mention our man Dave) so i hope it does well but i do realize it is a television drama being directed by some producer with the sole objective being to gain viewers and sell advertising slots. they could give two squirts about the cars and i think for must of us on here thats what it is ALL about.

i think Boyd and the biker family have forever tarnished their reputations with alot of the people that know anything about this stuff and i hope Shine does'nt do the same. Jesse James did the T.V. thing and came out allright (in my eyes) so i think it can be done. you can be on T.V. and NOT come off lookin like a douche bag in the end.

in the end though it is T.V., you have to take it with a grain of salt. thats just my 2 cents though.

I get it that there is a 'formula' that must work for this stuff when producers want a hit, just look at all of the brainless wanna be chopper mullet heads that line up to get a Tuttle (sp?) autograph for $20.

I think our crowd is gonna be hard to please considering this show isn't exactly tailored to entertain folks like us, it originated from producers trying to make money, period.

Face it, most of us don't care about drama, we just want to see cool cars get built with new ideas with unlimited crazy budget to spend all while we sit on our ass's drinkin' a beer. But, the car deficient need the drama to stay interested (can't you just hear the masses asking 'nailhead?!?' they used nails in those hot rod engines???)

If I wanted to watch an amateur fuck something up, I could just get back to work in my own garage...

I'm in to the end to see Littleman win it all. I don't think there's a doubt after this 1st episode...

I got home late and the show was already on. My old lady was taping it for me, so I decided not to watch the last half. I could hear it playing in the next room, and everytime I heard Jimmy's voice I wanted to punch him in the mouth. No, I lied. I wanted to punch him in the mouth several times whenever I heard him. Sorry he irritates me.

Good Lord! Who owns that '32 FiveWindow these guys are "working" on? Are the actually billing the guy? Dave and the old Dry Lakes and Bonneville footage are the only reason to watch future shows.

I don't get why some have to get down on Jimmy, or Jesse for that matter. If anybody thought that I did my job so well that they put me on tv I'd go for it. Not to be on tv, but because I would appreciate the acknowledgment.
I was introduced to Jimmy at VLV 2005, and he was cool enough to me. He asked questions about my life even, and we just hung out for a few. He didn't seem like he had a swollen head. I've met WAY more douche's doing what I do, and at lower levels of success.

Piero, thank god in that genius mind of yours you came out with not 1 but 4 MFS. I would watch them over and over again then to watch anymore of that "HardShine" again. Can you say Egomaniac? If that is the way he is in real life, glad I never have met him. KNUX!

wasnt impressed with the show at all. unrealistic ,a fewof the apprentices dont even belong there at all. too formulated, another "copy Cat" production. its a shame cause it could have been "the real deal" considering who's involved.

By a fluke in my work travel plans I got to see this (don't have cable). I watched the Coddington shows on both ends of this, I'd have to say that this is a much better show than American hot rod.

I can't imagine why any of the well know builders do these shows. Did Boyd have a better reputation before his show? I'd bet so. It's reality TV and if I was someone with a reputation to maintain, I wouldn't do it.

On the other hand, I'd watch this if it was on, sure beats watching novelas.

I did learn something from it (I had never thought to do this ever but I learned that you shouldn't weld directly to a stereo case)

Like the nailhead too, that was a bit inspiring to me since the one I have is all nasty and bone stock and still in a 5,000 lb car.

PS: Is the other promising "apprentice" a member here?

Just a Grassy knoll here but me thinks he already got the job...

just like on survivor or idol the show is taped in advance and the winner has been chosen by the time the show goes on air.

They are either done filming or are close to wrapping and Dave or other already know how its going.

i personally have not seen the show but have seen daves work in person and in the pics and know he is a legit builder...

    Good luck Littleman...you deserve it...

Whoa...Whoa... now with a grain of salt. Yeah, there is too much drama on the show, but like some of the threads on here aren't? (Calling it the way I see it). But, importantly, are they working on the type of stuff we dig? Yeah. Is it unfortunately focused towards middle-class white people that have that 70s something piece of crap in the garage that will never run, but will go buy the Hard Shine tee as soon as available at WalMart? Yeah. Geared towards people who have never "seen" a real life gang banger? Yeah. Is everyone pretty stoked Littleman is on it? Yeah! Should you watch Choppertown afterwards to watch real people work with out the bullshit? Probably. I'm just sayin', we all jumped online to talk about it because we are passionate about cars. Take the good with the bad. Jimmy builds cars right? So if his TV show, ummm... something he doesn't do, sucks, can we really raze him?
How would you like to weld for the first time with a million people watching that run to their computers and post how bad you suck at it. Duh, it's not going to be great. I feel that our passion consumes us when our expectations are not met because we really all just want the best for anyone of "our kind".

Wow... I am thinking about this way too much. (Rant!!)

I don't get the big deal of this Shine guy....seems to really like himself...look at all the damn shirts he has his name on. Does that mean he is a great car builder? NO!

Shit I know guys (and gals) that can turn a wrench and beat metal into art and they could care less about cameras and printed shirts with their names all over them!

Go build a Hot Rod and put down the damn camera!

    ok, rant over....

  23. on a sliding scale, this show slid off. The sideways glance at the camera by the Shine guy when he showed the inept way of making that circle did it for me. Like the rest have said here, at 85 an hour, everything had better be a ten. If this guy was doing a car for me, he'd learn the real concept of "my way or the highway". If he didn't do EXACTLY as I wanted, HE would be giving me back my 85 dollars an hour. No 2's, no rough edged spacers(no spacers at all), and no running to the cabinet for grade two bolts and nuts. That's the trouble with these shows featuring one so-called talented builder. He begins to think he is the do-all, end-all. What he doesn't understand, is the guy signing the check covering that 85 an hour, is the the real end-all. And lastly, I didn't see the real gold dust or diamond chips in that 30,000 paint job. Maybe bad lighting?

    a few things...

i cant wait til chapouris turns up at a show so i can have my wife's box of lee "press-ons" signed.

some painter in deepest darkest alabama just cranked up his labor rates. its freakin barrett jackson all over again.

they must have payed littleman extra to keep a straight face.

tv production companies must pay extremely well to convince folks to make themselves into asses in front of millions.

Too funny! WE NEED SHIRTS WITH THIS!

I taped the show and got in late. I had to shut it off before Littleman even made it to the shop. I felt insulted by the women they picked! There are a lot of talented woman here on the HAMB that could have "held their own". Typical Holleywood BS! Out of respect of Littleman, I am going to try and finish watching it tonight.
